Hello Dakka,

In the new year, the FLGS I'm a part of is hosting a player run 30k escalation campaign, aimed primarily at getting new people interested into 30k. Now, the narrative behind the campaign is that it is set in the battle for a hive using the Centurion rule set set over 3 moths at 500pts a month.

For those unfamiliar with the centurion rule set, it essentially boils down to this:

- Tanks, Superheavy Vehicles, Drop Pods and Fliers are not allowed.
- Bikes, Attack Bikes, Jet Bikes, Artillery, Monstrous Creatures and Leviathan Siege Dreadnoughts are 0-1 choices.

As I want to use the talons of the emperor (because I really like their fluff and less models to paint!) Would they be viable due to the restrictions in place? And as such, what would be a decent list to take (using the fore mentioned limits) at 500, 1000 and 1500pts respectively.

Thanks in advance!

Talons are hardly affected by the restrictions, because only your jet bikes would be limited to the 0-1, or depends if you are also playing Sisters of Silence because their DT is hover tank while Custodes vehicles are only skimmers.

So I'd say make a list that you enjoy playing!

Whilst you do not really suffer from the restrictions, you do suffer from the unit costings. A minimum HQ and two troops of pure Custodes clocks in at 520pts. (2x3 Spears and a Captain)

A Calth box could outnumber you nearly five to one with ease. (Bolter centurion and 34 tacticals comes to 492pts.

For your first game you will really need to invest in some Sisters to provide cheap troops and tactical flexibility. At 1000pts Custodes can begin to shine with access to more bodies, possible cool stuff (terminators, dreadnoughts and similar) or Valdor / The Tribune if you are so inclined.

Thank you for the feedback gentleman - most informative to a 30k newbie!

This is the list I'm going to go with for my 500pts games:

HQ:
Shield Captain
Guardian Spear - 190pts

Troops:
Legion Custodes Guard Squad
4 x Custodes with Guardian Spears - 220pts

Sisters of Silence Vigilators
5 sisters, executioner blades - 85pts

Total - 495pts

So, will this be pretty decent as a start to add to?

As soon as you're out of 500 pts, your opponents might as well not bother playing.

This is the most devastatingly good comp talons could ever hope for.

Also sisters have a rule which requires you to have a sister hq to field them per 3 units i believe is the number.

I'm confused by this statement. Are you saying that the Custodies are so good that they will always win? Or are you saying they are so bad that the Legion players will always win?

I'm saying that comp strongly favors custodes, which are already a very very strong army in heresy.
