Isn't the Word Bearers Omnibus (Dark Apostle, Dark Disciple, Dark Creed) supposed to be pretty good?
I haven't read it myself, but I seem to recall hearing it was at least pretty decent.

They're not badly written. Bit overly 'Space Marines are ze bestest' but what Space Marine focused book isn't? Has a fair variety of antagonists too and some intra-Legion politics.

First book is the best imho. The other two are OK but a bit hit and miss.
|
Please note, for those of you who play Chaos Daemons as a faction the term "Daemon" is potentially offensive. Instead, please play codex "Chaos: Mortally Challenged". Thank you. |

I found the first book of the Word Bearers series pretty atrocious to be honest.
It contains very interesting details and information about the legion, but as a book itself I wouldn't recommend it.

I'd struggle to recommend the trilogy. The best book is the first, which is mediocre. When you stand it next to the Night Lords and Iron Warriors omnibuses, it really falls short. No likable characters, a lack of interesting plot, and average descriptions. I'd only read it if you are a die hard fan and have had enough of how weakly they come across in the HH series (as warriors/soldiers.)
