It's a fairly straight forward question really... do you think GW will ever release a new game at a different scale from the 28mm heroic scale they currently use for 40k and AOS? The last attempt at something at a different scale was the poorly received Dreadfleet. I really miss the likes of Epic, Warmaster, Battlefleet, Inquisitor.... so do you think it's a possibility? If so what would you like to see? A reboot from the past or perhaps something different?
The first rule of unarmed combat is: don’t be unarmed.
There is a thriving community for 40k Epic. The Epic Armageddon rules (which generally seem to be the most common and well regarded) are available for free download
Miniature wise you're no longer completely reliant on eBay (now getting pretty expensive as they've been out of print for some time) but if you search for Vanguard miniatures, Onslaught Miniatures, amongst others, there are lots of suitable proxies (which are obvious links to 40k) available.
Of course GW is due to be releasing a new Adeptus Titanicus at some point in the future - most of the community chatter thinks it will be 8mm. But even if it is upscaled, there are some 3d modelling pics over on Tactical Command forum of how this might compare with current Epic - the general consensus is that they should be fairly interchangeable.
So definitely think Epic is probably more accessible now than it ever has been (even perhaps in the final years of official GW support, before the game was dropped) - definitely a great time to give it a go
One of the big advantages of keeping all your models the same scale is that you can use them across multiple games. AoS and Shadespire is a perfect example of this. Those characters will likely have warscrolls for AoS so that Shadespire can be used as a gateway game into the larger scheme.
They've done other games like Inquisitor that were different scale and bombed. That said, if they did Inquisitor in 28mm scale, I think it'd be great. Inquisitors are some of the coolest characters around, and having some new variety in plastic would be fantastic.
Warmaster carries on quite well in the UK and Mainland Europe. The recent community release of the the Warmaster Revolution ruleset using Warmaster Ancients (confirmed as Rick Preistley's draft of 2nd Ed Warmaster) to update Warmaster Fantasy has seen about a years worth of tournament play and is standing up very well.
No one, I repeat no one is looking for a AoS version of Warmaster. Just in case GW is listening; of course a rerun of the old minis range would be great!

I like to think, even if the rules don't come up to scratch - that's a great new range of small scale minis that you will get regardless.
Think the community is strong enough and will endure regardless of what GW chooses to release or not release, as the case may be (as evident by how long Epic has survived - and in some ways is actually thriving now with all of the 3rd party producers releasing compatible miniatures).
What about that Inquisitor 54mm game I've heard about and even own one still-in-box miniature for? Or was that not a GW game but a knock-off?
My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/1/23, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~15000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Adeptus Custodes: ~1900 | Imperial Knights: ~2000 | Sisters of Battle: ~3500 | Leagues of Votann: ~1200 | Tyranids: ~2600 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000

54mm is big for the collector/painter scene - not so much gamers anymore (it was once a common napoleonic scale) and since it wasn't directly cross-compatible with 40k, it failed. That said, Inquisimunda (mashup of necro/inquisitor in 28mm) works quite well.
More of a narrative GM controlled game than a battle game, and fun with the right crew. Needed tweaking to be playable, and a choice to NOT actively break the game (sort of like 2nd ed 40k did. Don't be a dick and it was fun. )
I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).
Old enough to know better, young enough to not give a ****.
That is not dead which can eternal lie ...
... and yet, with strange aeons, even death may die.
I have always wanted to see a 15mm version of Warhammer. Warmaster was nice but IMO 10mm was too small.
15mm Warhammer Fantasy would go great with the hype for Total War: Warhammer because you could recreate battles of a size closer to what you play in the video game and the miniatures would still look pretty detailed.

If I recall correctly weren't the miniatures also pretty damned expensive? At least for the time, they were probably a bargain compared to current GW pricing
When they came out, they were twelve quid, except for the Space Marine who was eighteen. Expensive enough for student me to balk at buying three for a warband, but I managed to afford one for display.
I've collected an army of Copplestone's 15mm barbarian and I really appreciate that scale. It works well, and with the right sculptor (like Mark Copplestone) 15mm doesn't have to be inferior to the larger scales.
With digital modelling, 15mm and smaller scales have become easy to do well, I've noticed a couple of KS's in the last year, which have utilised exceptionally detailed, digitally modeled <15mm miniatures, such as the Joan of Arc game currently on KS.
considering that GW is bringing back necromunda I say there is a high chance that an epic 40k replacement or reboot will come, I also think I saw somewhere that they are already making a smaller scale game called adeptus titanicus.
I'd love to see an inquisitor reboot at 28mm with a more well defined rule set. (Right now I am GMing a campaign that is great fun) crossing my fingers it'll co-inside with a full plastic inquisition release from GW
Unlikely but a man can dream cant he?

And this is how the original epic started out.
As plastic beetleback warlord titan v warlord titan (with different heads) in a starter box. No smaller titans, no vehicles, no infantry. All those came later.
Then you had the 1st edition Space Marine boxset, which included the infantry and vehicles. Fun fact - the Horus Heresy was originally conceptualised as a way of justifying marines vs. marines (those were the minis that had been designed for the sprue). That was it! I don't think they could have imagined the power-house this would later become, and such a big part of the GW lore.
Loved some of the artwork in the original book, of lots of little marines running around and blasting each other to bits - really captured the imagination!
There have been a couple of "what about small scale" posts since I posted previously about it, so here is my post again about ongoing community efforts with Epic

I've always liked the look and concept of Epic and Epic 40k, but even if they were widely available I wouldn't bother. I've got enough 40k figs to keep me busy in 28mm and the style that I love about 40k doesn't translate impressively to 6mm IMHO. Except for my 10mm Mecha gaming, I'm pretty firmly committed to 28mm gaming.
I've seen a few folks gaming necromunda or 40k in 15mm. Proxie Models makes some convincing IG tanks in 15mm and their are a good number of options for SM, Orks, IG and even some other factions from various 15mm makers.
WHFB or Mordhiem woud be a cinch at that scale.
I briefly dabbled in 15mm a while back, but sold it off. Still, 15mm gets more and better sculpts everyday so the indie gamer is spoiled for choice when it comes to affordable options.
