Me and some friends have started playing a military simulator that just recently got a 40k skin mod. We really enjoy flying the aircraft in the game and thought we would make a regiment/squad named after one in the Aeronautica Imperialis. However, we cannot find any Aeronautica Imperialis regiments or squadron names? Does anyone know of any or have a list? Also what would be the ranks in the Aeronautica Imperialis?

Navy ranks with a twist - pilot officer, flight lieutenant, commander/squadron leader, captain/wing commander (note that a navy captain is a much bigger honking deal than a guard captain)

Squadrons have a designator number (usually high - the navy is organised at sector and segmentum level, so there are a lot of fighter squadrons within a given navy command) plus a name.

Example Captain Haggard, Imperial Navy 767th Fighter Wing, "Roaring Thunder" Squadron is namechecked in a quote.

If you want an iconic name, "the" squadron is the 101st Imperial Navy Pacificus Elite Wing, a.k.a. 'The Apostles', who are to all intents and purposes the the top gun unit of the Imperial Navy.

... or there's the Phantine Air Corps - an Astra Militarum regiment who fly Thunderbolts, Lightnings and Marauder bombers.

So coming back tot his discussion (trying to wrap my head around everything). What ranks would the aircraft pilots and crew have? (the people who fly Valkyrie's, man the guns, co pilots... in particular).
Also what would the rank of the guy who orders the Valkyrie pilots about?

In real air forces, pilots are usually officers. Valkyrie door gunners, the turret gunners and bombardiers in Marauders and suchlike might not be, though. The particular ranks will differ between segmenta, but as an example the current RAF seems to have most pilots being Flight Lieutenants (equivalent to army Captains).

In the imperial navy, captains are in command of voids hips like cruisers, so fighter pilots and such would be much lower ranked. There's a fighter pilot character in Pandorax but I forget her rank. I can look into it though

I'm a big BFG fan, so I have some information for you. Most atmospheric craft flown are Imperial Navy and belong to the Aeronutica Imperialis. Pilots are officers, navigators can be officers or servitors. Door gunners are enlisted, one would be the aircraft's crew chief, the other a professional heavy gunner. So one would be a naval rating assigned to the hangar area, and the other would be a Navy armsman. I run a Naval Security Squadron in 40k, basically a drop troop army with heavy air support. Let me know if you have any Navy fluff questions.

-Me: Don't tell the commissar but i left my Imperial Infantrymans Uplifting Primer at home, but I do carry a folded Texas flag behind my front plate.
-Friend: Texas flag gives you AV14 all around.

Jury-Rig - makeshift repairs or temporary contrivances, made with only the tools and materials that happen to be on hand, the Machine Spirit is not pleased......

Don't forget naval ranks are different to army ranks. A naval captain has a higher ranking than an army captain. IRL a naval captain is equivalent to an army colonel, both nato O-5's.
