Hey folks!

So, today we were given a peak at the new Eldar psychic power Empower/Enervate:

Just in case, here's the text:

Empower/Enervate:
The psyker helps their comrades to strike at their full potential, imbuing them with the strength of the Aeldari heroes of old whilst diminishing the powers of his foes.

Empower/Enervate has a warp charge value of 6. If manifested, choose one of the following:

Empower: Choose a friendly Asuryani Infantry or Asuryani Biker unit within 18" of the psyker — add 1 to wound rolls in the Fight phase for that unit until your next Psychic phase.

Enervate: Choose an enemy unit within 18" of the psyker — your opponent must subtract 1 from all wound rolls made for that unit in the Fight phase until your next Psychic phase.

So, you might already see the issue; how many times can you cast this power? By my strict reading, it's 1 power with 2 modes. You cast Empower/Enervate, and once manifested you choose the result. As such, you'll only ever get Empower OR Enervate off. Getting off both in 1 turn would be impossible, as you're not allowed to cast the same power more than once per turn, and Empower/Enervate has already been cast once you cast either of its modes.

Would people on these forums concur?

Unless there's something in the 'dex that countermands the usual rules, yes, that's correct.

Froth at the top, dregs at the bottom, but the middle - excellent

It's one Power with two possible effects/modes. You can cast it once per turn in Matched Play.

Yes, one casting of the power, with you choosing the option of two that you want.

If it's like the index, which it seems like no one has consulted thus far lol, each "mode" counts as a separate power.

Note that the Runes of Battle psychic powers have two names, and two effects. Each effect counts as a different psychic power, so in matched play games a Warlock Conclave that manifests Conceal could also attempt to manifest Reveal.

I don't have my index handy atm but I could have sworn there was something about the split worlock powers and matched play in there?

Yup, quoted the blurb about Runes of Battle above for reference

As noted a above, we only have the power and no other rules from the codex.

Much like the index, it could be that the modes count as separate powers, in fact I would bet on that.

It should work the same as the existing Runes of Battle, as said.

Oh nice... damn, my Eldar buddy will be happy to hear that. I'm not, haha!
