Hi,

Title says it all-what would you suggest?

Army is still being built up, so there's a lot of flexibility in how it grows, but I'm not planning on accumulating cultists (if this swings things one way or the other)
Currently have a half-built converted Jump Pack HQ (using Possessed Wings as count-as Jump pack) which I had originally intended to be my Lord....but this was before I picked up the termies So I'll have a termie HQ and a jump pack HQ, thinking Lord for one and Sorc for the other.

Homebuilt warband, generally running Alpha Legion tactics.

I like Chaos Lords for the reroll, but a Terminator Lord is not necessarily going to be near the rest of your troops. So that buff may not matter.

I have been having a lot of luck with Death Hex recently. Blew away a Custodes force over the weekend with 2 Sorcerers cancelling their invulnerable saves.

Think about it this way. Do you plan to use your Terminators for combi-plasma shooting? If so, the Lord lets you reroll 1s, and that buff might be more valuable. Do you plan to treat them as heavy infantry and charge other targets? A Sorcerer with Death Hex and Warptime might be the best option.

But think about what you want to do with the Terminators and make your choice that way. There's no harm in having them both on the table. I would put the Terminator armor on the Sorcerer just because the CL can take a little more punishment.

All of my Chaos characters who can...have jump packs, and one has an option for Terminator armour (painted up the same guy in both). Jump Pack movement is huge for characters being able to Deep Strike and get their auras and spells on target.

I find that with spells like Smite, the Chaos Sorcerer with jump pack is potent as he gets to determine more freely who is closest (read: Smite target). I don't think you can go wrong with either.

I run my sorcerer in term armor and lord on a bike but jump pack would be about the same for that use. Sorcerer teleports in with terminators with power axes and storm bolters, 1 with reaper autocannon and powerfist, srg with storm bolter and powerfist. Sorcerer casts warp time on them and they get well within range for a charge after deployment. Plus all the anti infantry dakka they typically kill one squad at range and then charge another and put the hurt on it. Works well enough, but sometimes after this happens the sorcerer is left out in the cold and gets punted off the field. A solution has been to also drop oblits in near them to screen the sorcerer and put extra fire power into another target if needed. Give the oblits mark of slaneesh and you have a potent drop that can do lots of amazing things.

As others have said it's all about your plan for the army and the units you have. My chaos lord hangs out with predators and defilers giving them his reroll, the bike is just for rapid movement and extra toughness.

hmmmmmm. Many things to think about.

I haven't played 40k since 6th with SM, this warband is me getting back into the hobby, so my intuition for good combos is still growing.

I can see mobility being good for both Lord and Sorc-being able to get to the right place quick and buff the right unit can obviously change a lot. But having a termie HQ just looks good

I've settled on a CSM Daemon Prince (mobility, toughness, re-roll 1's aura, 1 spell) and a Jump-Pack Sorcerer as my 2 HQ's. The Sorcerer needs a jump pack to be mobile enough to influence the whole table (effectively a 30" range on major buff spells; +1 to Hit and -1 to be Hit).

I've always preferred the Daemon Prince over a Chaos Lord as well (especially when considering DG). You get the buff of a Lord, but can also effect aligned daemon units as well, tougher, dishes out more damage and better mobility than a terminator lord. Can only cast 1 power though so falls short over a Sorcerer in that area.

Really up to the individual. Since 2-3 HQ's are almost mandatory these days you could always go both!

Sorcerer seems useful in termy armor for the invul, but it makes him slow and I find sorcerers should be fast and adaptable.

This is the Jump Pack edition.

With that said, Termy armor for a lord. Jump pack for a Sorcerer.

It's not that I disagree with the idea of making both as both (ie a termie lord, termie sorc, JP lord and JP sorc) and fielding various combinations, it's that I currently don't have the parts to make all four

DP is out, for the time being. Haven't completely settled on faction fluff and don't want to commit to a Daemon until it's developed a bit more and I can make something look nice and fitting with the theme-a few misfit marines is fine and easily overlooked, but a DP sticks out a little if it doesn't match the theme

Still lots to think about. Tempted to go CL in Termie armour just because it looks more physically imposing...I mean, I want to end up with something viable on the table, but rule of cool is very important here.

Can't go wrong than a Lord in Terminator armour followed by a retinue then, you'll always find a use for it in most TAC lists so it's a safe bet to start with
