Friends and I are getting back into things. We haven't played since the end of 6th. 7th was not well received.
What are peoples general feelings on running SM characters in a "Counts as" for a different chapter. I have a lovely scratch built Vulkan Hestan that I made and painted a lovely shade of smurf blue. The faction keywords are kind of the only thing I can see against doing this. That seems pretty cut and dry but I really enjoyed my Ultramarines Captain Faken Imposterstan.

It's spelled "cavalry." NOT "calvary."

Ultramarine have their own specific special rules that only apply to Ultramarines and their successors (and homebrew chapters that you decide use Ultramarines tactics and Characters like Marneus)

Salamanders have their own specific special rules that only apply to Salamanders and their successors (and homebrew chapters that you decide use Salamanders tactics and Characters like Vulkan)

In short if you are using the Ultramarines Chapter Tactics, you can only take Special Characters with the Ultramarines Chapter (or like some Ultramarines successor Characters from Forgeworld, if you are using specifically that Successor Chapter)

If you want to have blue Salamanders using Salamanders Chapter Tactics and Vulkan, that's just fine.

EDIT: Used the word Ultramarines a bit too many times

The Polito form is dead, insect. Are you afraid? What is it you fear? The end of your trivial existence?

Faken Imposteren sounds like a mighty salamander hero who shall smite the smurfs army from the inside. I approve as a Salamander player lol.

Ultramarine captain : "Hey you, what are you doing here?"
Faken : " Nothing sir, just waiting for orders. I was told to stand here by the codex...."
Ultramarine captain :"oh ok then"

Turns around and gets shot in the back of the head.
Faken " God this is too easy"

Ya, that's the impression I was getting and I wasn't liking it. Oh well.
