Really helpful comment....

About your list:

1. The Shadowsword is a really great tank, and I know every guard player needs to have one, but I really prefer to use the banehammer in 8th. The Shadowsword is just overkill in most cases, but an average of 4 shots at bs 4 can really go against you. The tank is great against titatic models, where it gets +1 to hit, but against anything else I prefer 3d6 shots with s8 which do a flat 3 dmg. Also you've got 3 HWT which will always die in turn 1 - unless they're sitting in a banehammer/stromlord.

2. Russes are cool, but with the amount of russes you play, I would preferably take another tank commander and also bring some of the other variants. Maybe 1 or 2 demolishers. A punisher can be great as a tank commander. 50+ shots at 3+ to hit and S5 is nothing to scoff at!

3. Infantry! I would use at least 80+ men. They're important because they can shield your tanks from assaults. also give those squads at least a grenade launcher or plasma gun.

4. I really like scout sentinels in 8th. They can make a move before the 1st turn, thus creating a safe zone in which will save you from 1st turn charges via teleport. If you ever fought deathwing, you will really appreciate this

Also, as good as russes are, I prefer to take 2-3 (max) and take a good mix of basilisks, manticore and wyvern.
