Sword-Wielding Bloodletter of Khorne

Hi All,
With the coming of 8th I have returned to 40k, having just finished assembling and painting about 7000 points of CSM. I was hoping to expand my collection with a modest extra army of about 2000pts. Tyranids were at the top of my list for this, but never having played either with or against them before I was hoping for some advice on a list I've thrown together. Because I don't intend to expand it (at least, not considerably) beyond the one list, I aim for it to be something of a take-all-comers list. I appreciate that Tyranids are getting a codex soon, and that things will change, but I just wanted some perspective at this stage on how Tyranids play.

Battalion
1x Malanthrope (90)

1x Broodlord (162)

15x Genestealers: Rending Claws (180)

15x Genestealers: Rending Claws (180)

25x Termagants: 15x Fleshborers, 10x Devourers (140)

3x Raveners: Rending Claws, Deathspitters (99)

1x Exocrine (228)

1x Exocrine (228)

Vanguard Detachment
1x Swarmlord (300) - Warlord

3x Tyrant Guard: Scything Talons, Rending Claws, Adrenal Glands (114)

3x Hive Guard: Impaler Cannons (144)

3x Hive Guard: Impaler Cannons (144)

So my aim was to get in my favourite units, without sacrificing too much power. These are particularly Genestealers, a Hive Tyrant (of some description), Raveners, and Termagants. Ones that haven't made the cut but I'd be very happy to be talked into are Carnifexes, Hormagaunts, and Trygons.

The strategy of the above list would be as follows. Leading the charge in the middle would be the Swarmlord with Tyrant Guards and Termagants wiping out screens and pinging annoyances. In the back the Malanthrope will be babysitting the Hive Tyrants and Exocrines. The Broodlord with Genestealers would run up one flank. And the Raveners are there to pop up and disrupt the enemy backlines.

So what do you think of the list? Does it look like it will work? Is there anything I should take out or put in? Overall, does it look like I've got something of a grasp on Nids?

Cheers,
Tony

ive ran a list that is quite similar. the exocrines are amazing as are the hive guard. malanthropes are amazing... at 2k i feel like the swarmlord is good but a huge point sink. nearly 450 pts for him and his guard is 1/4th of your army. unless you have a way of garunteeing him getting to combat he will most likely get shredded.

Thanks for the speedy response! I'm glad to hear that I have the bones of the list down.

As for the Swarmlord, I figure with an 8" move and 3 tyrant guard, as well as the possibility to slingshot himself, that there's a firm chance of him getting to combat. But then I'm not the expert.

The reason why I went with the Swarmlord is because I love the Hive Tyrant model, but heard that Hive Tyrants themselves aren't really that good at the moment, either in their CC builds, dakka builds, or balanced. But I'm more than happy to be talked around. So if I do get rid of the Swarmlord + Tyrant Guard, any thoughts on what I should exchange them for? A Hive Tyrant + a Trygon? If a Hive Tyrant, what build looks good these days?

So would the following be better?

1x Hive Tyrant w/ Wings: 2x Monstrous Rending Claws (170)

1x Broodlord: Monstrous Rending Claws (162)

1x Malanthrope (90)

15x Genestealers: Rending Claws (180)

15x Genestealers: Rending Claws (180)

30x Termagants: 18x Fleshborers, 12x Devourers (168)

3x Hive Tyrants: Impaler Cannons (144)

3x Hive Tyrants: Impaler Cannons (144)

3x Raveners: Scything Talons, Deathspitters (93)

1x Trygon Prime: 3x Massive Scything Talons, Bio-Electric Pulse w/ Containment Spines, Biostatic Rattle, Adrenal Glands (219)

1x Exocrine (228)

1x Exocrine (228)

Do you think the Hive Tyrant + Trygon Prime is better than the Swarmlord + Tyrant guard? If this list is better, should the Broodlord be the Warlord? I feel that the Tyrant may die pretty easily.
