A rough draft copy showed up in the Q&A / Orange Box reveal with Tony from FW. In it was a copy of the new AoD Rulebook and it was stated that more info would be coming in a week or so. Expected release I believe was very soon.

That has me very excited - I shelved all my 30k projects until that book drops, so I am looking forward to what changes are made and how things are shaken up.

I wouldn't expect it "soon". GW is very tight with it's current release schedule, and is very careful about releasing anything that will overshadow or conflict with it's own sales.

This week was the release of Shardspire. In two weeks, Eldar Craftworld. Couple weeks after that Tyranids. So we are already into the middle of November. GW always has some kind of Holiday Surprise, and they also have to release Chapter Approved, two more Codexes after the Bugs to stay on pace with their codex announcements from earlier this year. Somewhere in there they have to finish the Shardspire release of four more warbands, a couple more Blood Bowl teams, and there is always the Titanicus Game that is rumored to be sitting in a GW warehouse waiting to be released. Where in there will Forge World be able to make a major release like this?

Another thing- assuming the books are at the printers right now, and assuming they are being printed in China like all the rest of the Forge World books... after they are all printed and accepted, they'll be loaded onto a boat and shipped from China to the UK. That's wrapped up for shipping, loaded into a cargo container, then wait for a ship, and then sail. It's about a 2-3 week boat ride, then it has to clear customs, and trucked to Nottingham. All this during the busiest shipping time of the year. They will be lucky to get the book by the end of December.

My guess? The book will go up for pre-order in January 2018, and deliver in Feb 2018. Then again, I'm a huge pessimistic cynic. Let's hope I'm wrong and we'll have a new Red Book soon!

Kinda curious about what a jumping fox and 13 hounds have to do with this announcement?

Tam, "soon" is per the Twitch, so we can expect it soon. Which realistically speaking is a few months. Q1 2018 [I]is[/] soon. Maybe not as soon as we'd like, but I can wait a few months for official rules for sure.

All the red books have been $30-$50 USD. It sucks to have to buy another book, but I don’t think it’ll be $100 USD

"Rough draft" and "released soon" worry me greatly when it comes to FW. As much as I enjoy their products, editing is not their strong point, and I worry how many errors and omissions it may contain if the release date is too soon.

It's a revised 7th Ed. Not much to overhaul.

And it's FW, we love them... Warts and all. At least we got an update and know it's "soon". Good to have 30k come out of it's limbo.

No I disagree. If I'm paying a premium price for a product, I expect the people manufacturing it to treat it in that way. Not checking things like weapons having entries, images for inappropriate content etc is just a middle finger as far as I'm concerned. If I'm paying two and a half times the price for a similar product, I'd like to see a bit more care and attention going into the finished product.

Edit that said, I've accepted more than a few flaws with their models and still gone back for more

Meh, since 40k moved to 8th, and 30k remained at 7th, there wasn't single game of heresy played in my Club. And I believe it will stay this way.
Before I could easily take 30k army and play vs 40k army if I wanted, now this is impossible...on top of that, marines remain to be meh gameplay vise in 40k, so big part of things I have are kinda obsolete 40k wise.
Oh well, they do look nice on my shelf

I never got the point of that. I am a bit of a purist on this I guess, but I wouldn't want to play against 40k armies (except Orks and Eldar, for thematic reasons maybe). I am fine with it becoming a specialist game, ostensibly.

And really, as long as people have their 7th Ed Codex, they can still partake anyhow.

It wasn't a rough draft. It was the finished product, just printed on their in house printers, since they publishers hadn't finished the hardback ones.

The book is done. It's at the publishers. They wouldn't be sending "rough drafts" to get bound and prepped for distribution.

I swear, it seems like you guys are expecting the worse. I'm excited that it seems the 30K train is back on the tracks.

After the slew of errors in Inferno (that are still not fething answered yet) and the 8th edition books, it would be wise not to get one's hopes up.

I'm sorry, but FW has done a pretty solid job with the HH. Citing Inferno as a failing is fair, but hardly sets precedent. All the Black Books were incredible. They have FAQ'd the Index books they released and while I wouldn't advise anyone get too pumped, I think we should all be cautiously optimistic. This is an edition they are familiar with and that they are tailoring to their game now. I think it will wind up better off than it was, for sure. This is their time to address all the issues.

I dunno man. I love a lot of what they do, but having them in charge of core rules maintenance is legitimately a cause for concern. Inferno was a (beautiful) mess, but there are also rules questions people have about early books that still haven't been answered.

Well, they are at least well-versed in 7th and now the core rules cater to the content. No more adjusting with the whim of the main studio. Now they dictate their own game, which I think is great.

Hopefully this means more autonomy and we see more consistent FAQs like we have for the 8th Ed stuff.

It will be funny to see how much better (or worse!) Forge World's rules writing will be when given charge of their own game separate from GW's.

Still better than the crap main studio puts. Especially in terms of balance and rules depth.

As for the new info looks good. No huge changes but little bit of tweaks here and there. Especially like getting rid of invisibility. That spell was just trouble from the get-go.

Too bad game isn't still all that scalable but fixing that would require rethinking entire army selection system so not expecting that especially as problem comes only on very BIG games at which point you can generally house rule stuff anyway.

Looking forward for the rulebook to see what kind of changes they have made that they haven't shown us yet. Invisibility going away seems great to me and being able to use multiple melta bombs in assault phase by the same unit is just heavenly for Militia army. Part of me is wishing that they have nerfed Biomancy powers.

Hope that they release the book before the end of the year or early next year.

As a guy who uses an Ironwing army... the Melta Bomb rule makes me cringe a bit, but it is what it is. Improvise. Adapt. Overcome.
