I've got a semi competitive local tournament coming up next weekend and this is what I've thrown together with what I have. I don't have massive flexibility in terms of making unit changes but any feedback would be greatly appreciated! Loadout changes are very easy to make however.

Here's the list:

Captain in Gravis Armor [7 PL, 137pts]: Boltstorm gauntlet, Master-crafted power sword, The Salamander's Mantle

Primaris Librarian [7 PL, 105pts]: Force sword

Intercessor Squad [5 PL, 100pts]:[/b] Bolt rifle, 4x Intercessor, Intercessor Sergeant

Tactical Squad [5 PL, 110pts]
. 3x Space Marine
. Space Marine Sergeant: Combi-melta, Melta bombs, Power sword
. Space Marine w/Special Weapon: Meltagun

Tactical Squad [5 PL, 105pts]
. 3x Space Marine
. Space Marine Sergeant: Combi-melta, Power sword
. Space Marine w/Special Weapon: Meltagun

Inceptor Squad [10 PL, 180pts]: Assault bolter, 2x Inceptor, Inceptor Sergeant

Hellblaster Squad [8 PL, 165pts]: Plasma incinerator
. 4x Hellblaster
. Hellblaster Sergeant: Bolt pistol

Drop Pod [5 PL, 95pts]: Storm bolter

++ Total: [52 PL, 997pts] ++

Strategy is to put the 2 tactical squads in the drop pod, deep strike the inceptors and walk the rest up (boards won't be large - either 2x1 or 2x2). I'm facing a couple of other space marines, as well as some AM, Death Guard and Eldar.

This the sydeny tournament? If so I'm in on it too haha.

If you can get your hands on a rhino rather than a drop pod, it'll be cheaper and give you much better mileage. Drop pods will always be nine inches or more away from the enemy, meaning you meltas won't be able to do their Thang, and any kind of screening unit will mean you probably won't have anything decent to shoot at first turn. Because of the small size of the tournament, you also gotta think that that is a whole third of your army sitting in reserve, and also all your anti tank. What I can see happening is if you don't have first turn, the hell blasters will get shot to bits.

Inceptors are Very pricy for what they can do too, so I'd say swap them out for something if you've got it.

Thanks for the feedback! Unfortunately I started in late 7th on a budget so I'm with the pods for at least a little longer. A possible alternative based on your feedback is - inceptors + sternguard with heavy flamer + Harath Shen (a 3+ revive d3+1 healing apothecary). Or I could ditch the pod and try to footslog. I have ten man tactical squads and have two multimeltas as well. Delivery would be less consistent but I would at least have more bodies on the table.

Btw do doors still count as part of a pod in 8th ed tournaments? If so it will be a nightmare to deploy and better left out. If it turns out we're in the same tournament I'll see you there!

Doors do count as part of it! I was talking with some dudes about it and they actually suggested a bit of a wild card of two empty drop pods to drop in front of enemy lines before they come forward, opening the doors so they block out a bunch of ground and then making them deal with the pods if they want to move forward.

Swarming marines could also be pretty nifty, if you can get enough of them in the middle of the enemy they'll be forced to deal with them in a messy and inconvenient way. Dunno how that'll turn out for you haha.

Well I'll have a go seeing the models you own and where planning to use. I would give your characters jumppacks makes them much faster and usable . Melta has very short range so why not try some thing else combi plasma. put 2 steurn guard units inside giving them 10 combi plasma guns inside 12' inches giving you 20 plasma shots first turn that you could over charge if need be or fire 4 shots combined at -1 bs so you get 40 shots good for killing big bloks of troops.
you cant you can't deepstrike the captain (500 points have to be on the board . But you could move him up and if you are lucky you could get him in range of a few models so he will give the reroll .
my list is 850 points leaving plenty room for adons or
improvement a captain on a bike and the mantel would have T6 with a metla and a power fist and a 4++ he would be fun to field he could get in range of models to get that 1+ reroll with clever positioning that would allow you to safely overcharge your combi plasma guns .... its just a evil thought
