1750 Points, 9 Platoons

Wiking is probably my favourite LW list. I rocked them in 3rd edition, although towards the end it was an uphill battle. V4 has given and taken from Wiking: my MkIVHs with the side-skirts are now more vulnerable going into the assault, but my Panthers are less vulnerable to heavy artillery.

You have lots of Recon and not enough kill in the list for my liking. The 88mm Flak guns might also be a liability.

My standard Wiking List has a Panther HQ, four Panthers with Kanone, five MkIVs with Kanone, an SP AA platoon like you have and an 8 Rad patrol. The Panthers kill tanks and the MkIVs assault objectives. The second part is tougher, now, so I am having to adjust.

All that being said, your list is a good MkIV list!

I tinkered with a Panther list but I couldn't get it to "feel" right. I could potentially drop the scout platoon and the 8.8cm which would open up 280pts. That said I'm not entirely sure what I would fill that gap with. The 8.8cms in my experience automatically draw fire which was the thinking in including them; they also add another layer of AAA. Any thoughts on what to exchange them with? The recon component was included specifically to protect the tanks and harass softer units.

Given your thoughts what would you drop and what would you replace those platoons with?

Trying to keep as much of the theme of your list as possible, this is what I would go for:

HQ - 2 x MkIVH
Pl - 4 x MkIVH with Panzer Kanone
Pl - 4 x Panther with Panzer Kanone
Pl - 3 x SP Quad AA
Pl - Gepanzerte Aufklarungs Pl (full)
Sp - 2 x 8 Rads
Sp - 2 x Nebs

Panzer Kanonen are great fun!
