So with the coming Chimera/Thrawn release for Armada, I'm pretty seriously considering getting in to some fleet action, especially with the Corellian Conflict campaign option to provide context for games/a lure for other area players.

So I'm wondering what you all think are the best ways to build a fleet on a reasonable budget. Clearly at least one of each of the imperial fighter blisters (or particular squadrons via ebay) will probably be "must buy" choices.

I'm guessing the core set is also a must buy, or at least a good choice in terms of value (vsd/fighters/cards/dice/maneuver tool). But I'd like to hear your thoughts.

And then what? I like the Raider as a concept (and don't like the light carrier), but I don't really know what else to get. Will a regular ISD be needed/highly useful for cards and options (or fielding 2 ISDs!!!) ?

I greatly appreciate your thoughts and the reasoning behind your recommendations.

Hi and welcome to armada.

i found this video by Crabbok on YouTube very helpful and would highly recommend subscribing to his channel as he does some brilliant vids on armada and xwing.

Watched the vid (and it's good)... but the big question is whether or not to buy the standard ISD or wait for the Chimera?

How are the cards in the ISD? Can they be easily eBay-ed?

I would recommend getting both.

ebay wise, i don't see them very often come up.

If you do see individual cards on eBay, you'll end up paying quite a premium, because a lot of cards can be used if you change your play style. it's not like X-Wing where the StarViper was the only expansion to get AutoThrusters from, and they were a big deal.

Plus you'll want the ship cards themselves... it's a lot of trouble for the tiny svaings you might get in the end. And yes, 2 ISD are a thing. You have to plan for it, and choose your objectives wisely, as well as bank on getting your opponent to choose from your objectives... but it can definitely be a thing.

Both ISD kits look like they will be useful. Original comes with the ISD 1 and 2, which look like they will be the most versatile versions. The Refits look like they will be more useful when you just need a beat stick, being more specialized for close and long range, but having less diversity of upgrades and lower squadron values.
