I am currently putting together the following army from 8th Edition:

30 Wraithguard with a wraithcannon each
2 Wraithlord with 2 starcannons each and a ghost glaive each
1 Farseer with Singing Spear

I figure that it should be a potent strike force. Any suggestions or changes that would be recommended for this small army?

Well, 30 Wraithguard are not necessary. At the end of the day, you need more variety to fulfill different battlefield roles.
I'd take Wraithguard with D-scythes in the first place. Mount 5 men squads in Serpents and they will be in the opponent's face in turn 2.
Wraithlords are meh since they are too slow and have a low damage output.
I'd wait for the new codex to see what other units could be useful.

Your list dont have anything to counter hordes swapping some to wraithblaides and wraithscythe would help

Consider getting one or two spiritseer as soon as possible

Why not just add another Farseer instead of adding a Spiritseer?

Spritseers are cheaper and have access to different powers plus boost wraith constructs.

I'd definitely change some of the guard to D-scythes and place in serpent. Use wraithcannon guard in webway portal.

I can only fit two or three wraithguard in a wave serpent. With the battle formation I am choosing that would be only two wave serpents so only about six models could be carried. I want to avoid using troops and have an exclusively spirit host army.

I second this, half of your webway portalling guards are likely to either get blown away/bogged down by hordes/or get crippled after they’ve had their volley. The foot slogging guard and lords are too slow to catch up with the webway striking squads. Plus playing maelstrom hames you’d need some mobility. Love iyanden and wraiths though
