A buddy of mine plays the following army (2000 pts):

Baneblade (4x lascannon, 5x twin heavy bolter)
3x Leman Russ (battle cannon, lascannon, heavy bolters), one with Pask
Leman Russ Demolisher
3x 30 Conscripts
Commissar (one or more)
Enginseer
2x5 Ratlings
3 Sentinals (heavy flamers)

The tanks are bubble wrapped by the Conscripts so that its hard to get close with meltas or multimeltas.
How do you take on this list? I'm hard pressed to think about a BA, GK, Eldar (codex in sight) or Necron army.

Lanchester's square law - please obey in list building!

Don't know with BA, GK and Necron, but with Eldar post codex and post AM nerf i'm not seeing how that AM list can oppose resistance to any alaitoc list.

I would shoot them with lascannons and rocket launchers.

How do you take on this army? This is an honest question by the way. This is an anti-meta (Guilliman's Stormravens, etc.) list made as a joke but it seems it has very few real counters, if any. For example, it utterly annihilates the army in the original post of this thread.

Super-Heavy Detachment (Cadia):

-Shadowsword, Volcano Cannon, Twin HB
-Shadowsword, Volcano Cannon, Twin HB
-Shadowsword, Volcano Cannon, Twin HB

Battallion (Valhalla)

-Company Commander, BP (Commissar relic)
-Celestine

-20 Conscripts
-20 Conscripts
-20 Conscripts

Spearhead (Cadia):

-Company Commander, Bolter

-Astropath
-Astropath

-2 Leman Russ Battle Tanks, Punisher Cannons, Heavy Bolters

-3 Heavy Weapon Teams, Mortars
-3 Heavy Weapon Teams, Mortars

Alaitoc can handle them. Even with all that firepower, you're going to struggle to shoot down -2 to hit Flyers. In addition, with the Commissar nerf, removing the Conscripts is now worth the effort - kill 19 and the remaining 11 will guaranteed run for the hills even with the ld buff and Commissar re-roll, as opposed to the old 1.

The company commander is a commissar. Pietrov's MK45 gives the old pre-nerf Commissar effect.

Secondly, flyers are not hard to kill. A Shadowsword kills one Stormraven, solo. It'll also kill Eldar flyers.

Thirdly, this army was conceptualised pre-Eldar. If Eldar come back in a big way with -1 to hit modifiers, you add deep striking close combat units that get them (Eversors). Alternatively, you go Guilliman's Soup with 2 UM Stormravens and 2 Shadowswords. Problem solved.

We can play the game of "what if" all day long, but the question was about that list, and the answer is that it has no way to win against spammed hit modifiers. A showsword will not down an eldar flyer when it is hitting on 6 (best case, worst case he is not hitting at all).

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Those shadowswords don't even have a regimental trait!

I was referring to the list in the OP, not your list, apologies for not being clear. & yes we all know Imperial soup is overpowered and has solutions for everything, no arguments there.

By the way, he uses the Cadia doctrine.
The Leman Russes can shoot twice for some reason (if they have moved not too far). I dont have the AM codex at hand.

Lots of light vehicles with AT weapons? Hordes of Sentinels, Ironstriders, etc.

The question is how would I take on this list.

My Black Legion CSMs are pretty much built for this kind of list, with 22 Lascannon shots spread out over CSMs, Predators, and Helbrutes. They get to reroll failed shots to hit and various Stratagems buff the Predators.

My army will stay put while the Lascannons do the work. The first target would be the Baneblade, followed by the Leman Russes. The Sentinels will probably be a problem, I would be looking to tie them up with the Helbrute or cheap cultists.

But your opponent is not bringing Scions or massed plasma. This is just big tanks with a conscript screen, it can be dealt with using standard strategies.
