Woe upon me, for I fell into the trap that is Moot Green!
This weekend I decided to buckle down and get the 3 Rhinos started that sat on my shelf, primed, for a good year or two. At this point I hadn't painted a Dark Angel vehicle in about that time since I focused on AdMech.
I remembered that using Moot Green as a final Highlight was way to bright for my tastes, so I used the following "recipe":
Caliban Green -> Warpstone Glow -> 1:1 Warpstone Glow/Moot Green -> Satin Varnish -> black Oil Wash
For some reason I didn't find it too bright while working on it, but after finishing it I looked with sinking pride at my now freshly painted Salamander vehicles.
Looking back, I remembered my "true" recipe:
Caliban Green -> 1:1 Caliban/Warpstone Glow -> Warpstone Glow -> Moot Green as a pin highlight for rivets and such -> Satin Varnish -> black Oil Wash
Now I have several options.
Option a: I can strip 3 rhinos and do it all over again
Option b: I can try and repaint the Moot Green areas at the top with warpstone glow, which would be my final highlight anyway. Getting a transition on the sides with a Caliban/Warpstone mix should be possible as well.
Option c: just respray the entire things with caliban green and go from there.
Option d: respray the top, fix the sides with the mix.
Obviously I'm not particularly fond of option a.... b would be the most effective, but could prove to be more difficult than anticipated. C is the safe way, whereas d is the compromise of safety and efficiency.
I tend towards d, with a fallback of c. Since it's all airbrushed, I don't have to fear obscuring details with a few more layers...
