So we're in the process of playing a season of Blood Bowl and I had my third game (fourth ever) this evening.

An issue arose when my opponent tried to blitz my thrower who had the ball at the time. The blitz was over 9 squares. I informed him that he wouldn't be able to make it even with Going for it.
He asked how? To which I replied "because blitzing costs a square (essentially MA-1) so the max he could do was 8 sqaures. He proceedes to argue with me for 10 minutes on why I was wrong. I eventually gave up because I knew my thrower had the support, worse case scenario he gets injured and the ball bounces right into one of my others guys that were around him.

I assume that I was right but does anyone know how to deal with these types of players?

Pack up your stuff and move on to the next game. When they have nobody left to play they generally get the hint.

Ask them to show you in the rules why they are right.

Why argue for 10 minutes? Just open the rulebook and find out.

Page 15, paragraph for blitz moves, it says in the third sentence "....but costs one square of movement for the player to make".

Didn't even take me 20 seconds to check

I did all of the above and even used fingers to show the max movement then minus the Blitz

Maybe try Blitzing him... for real.

But really just take a moment to look it up.

Yeah I still don't really see what there is to argue about

40k and WHFB often had complicated rules interactions, rules that were poorly worded and the rulebooks and codices were long and painfully spread out so sometimes arguments would arise where people thought they knew a rule but didn't however they also couldn't find it in the rules.

But BB rules are so simple that these arguments shouldn't come up unless for some reason you're playing without a rulebook. In which case you should expect to occasionally have rules disagreements and even if you *know* you're right you may have to concede because you have no capacity to prove it.

I can understand someone gets a bit annoyed if they had a cunning strategy that relied on a particular misunderstanding of a rule, but still not much need for an argument over it.

FWIW, the fact it costs 1 square movement is also written in the "sequence of play" section of the rulebook AND on the quick reference sheet that comes in the boxed set.
