A nice, healthy start to a Dark Eldar force, with lots of mean little sneaks and their magic fire (notes)

I've been painting some of these this month, in a very similar colour scheme as it happens. They're great models. Yours look really good.

Did you paint 40 of them though?

Absolutely love them, despite being finecast I love the sculpt of these models and your paintwork has really brought them to life. I love what you did with their skin, making the glowing tattoos a massive feature of the model. What were your techniques for making them pop so well? How did you achieve the hot flame look on their hands too? I struggled with mine and really like how yours came out.

feltmonkey, yep: 40 of the little space elf ninja pirates

Thanks, Inevitable, the casts were a bit of pain (especially the big sword ones), but I think they worked well. The big thing for the flames, I think, was getting all the way to white in the centers.

Absolutely stunning work. I love the colour choices and the execution has them look like they're glowing with energy. The extra added armour is a great touch. All around magnificent work.

Thanks! Yeah, I was trying to hit that energy glow in a simpler feel than full OSL which would have taken probably 2-3x as long. Glad it read

The mandrakes look good, but I do not like the prople one. But mandrakes are some damn sweet models. In fact so much of the DE are so freaking amazing fun to paint. It is a shame more people do not play them. They are an utter delight.

Yeah, purple is a little harder to get to pop than blue or teal... And I agree, the line was so vastly improved when they rebooted it.

Next up, Hellions (notes and WIPs)

Those hellions are gorgeous, the hair is so wild and fits the theme of speed perfectly with hellions. Top notch work on this batch.

Thanks! Yeah, it was a bit of a pain getting their torsos to mesh with the legs, but I was really happy with how their heads fit.

Beautiful as always, the way you paint them sells the glowing look perfectly. Will you be doing a full army shot at some point as well? This force would look amazing all together. Seriosuly though these look amazing, I love them.

On a slightly unrelated note: Do you have any plans to do some work on the upcoming Daughters of Khaine from AoS? They're amazing models that I'm thinking you'd have some great ideas to knock them out of the park.

Yes, I do plan to do a group shot (or a couple; I'm not sure where they'll fit). Yeah, even packed up on the storage shelf, the infantry looks pretty cool together; I'm looking forward to composing a few shots of them together.

And yes, at very least, I have a client interested in a more conventional scheme for the Daughters of Khaine line; I'm not sure where these guys will get, down the line, since the new ones weren't an option when this was planned out.

Amazing job finding such a creative way to carry that glow over to other aspects of the force. I'm continuously amazed at how well you get that glow to look so real and this vehicle is no exception. So happy to see the force growing.

Thanks!

The biggest trick is to not be afraid to highlight all the way to pure white: there's much more white (painted or glazed) in there than you'd expect.

Also, a little of it is that cyan tends to pop nicely in photographs/on screens, but I'm willing to take a little cheating there, since there are plenty of other aspects that look worse than in person.

WOOOW!

Really great looking models, I especially love the wings on the scourges, if you don't mind I'll use your picture to study how to paint wings actually..

Thanks! And feel free re: the scourges. I think that a lot of it is approaching things similarly to NMM, to get a little bit of a glossy sense on the feathers.
