Larry Harris, the creator of my most beloved board game has a new epic WW2 game that looks INCREDIBLE. It has complexity, novelty, resources, battle, fog of war, trade, national morale. Holy crap... I am backing my second Kickstarter.

Why? Do you think the goal is too low or too high? If the game gets enough buzz and interest, it can easily exceed a million in funding.

Too high. I don't follow how well most boardgame KSs go, but the ones I hear about doing crazy well seem to have a lot of plastic bling. This looks like it would appeal to a more mature audience so I don't know if they're going to be enough out there to hit that target. That and it is a company with no previous KS projects. Hope they get their funding, make a great game, and deliver in a reasonable time, though.

Was just gonna say the same. The game seems fantastic, but postage plus import duties are too much to make this worth looking at.

Not only that, but shipment to "Elsewhere" is a locked stretch goal for some insane reason. Which means that even if the game is successfully backed, but not sufficiently for the shipment option to be unlocked, if you're living "elsewhere", you will not receive your game. Unless I'm mistaken.

PS. It appears that I am. I am not allowed to back the project, because my country isn't listed. Neato.

From the looks of it, this box may be as big as Kingdom Death. How much was international shipping on that?

And it's not just the oversized mat you get for $99, but also some old school pusher sticks.

And, holy feth balls, I just calculated the postage for this over on USPS.com. Based off of the size and weight estimates on the KS page, USPS wants $97.50 to ship to the UK.

Most US-based Kickstarters these days use middlemen companies based in the other territories. They then ship the relevant number of items from the manufacturers direct to those companies, who in turn forward them on to the customer, rather than shipping to themselves in the US and then shipping out again to the destination. For something like this the end result is then usually around $30-35 with no customs payments to be made.

Is the weight comparable, though? This does look massive...

@bbb, Henry, & Youknowsit: This thing will fund in in 48hrs. Its not the company, its the Designer. Larry Harris is the Rick Priestly of board games. It was 33% funded in 3 hrs. Just checked. $137k funded of $150k funded in 14 hours. In my opinion Larry Harris's game design of Axis and Allies is the gold standard by which American style boardgames should be judged. You three should get on board. For dollars spent to time playing and enjoying, Larry Harris's game has been the BEST money I have ever spent on a boardgame or wargame. You wont regret backing this. You will regret not having one in your group. And i thought the page said it shared costs? Ok enough fan boy love. Buy this.

There seems to be a thing now, that American publishers on KS treat non-EU European countries unfairly. The other instance of this is this: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/hgngames/medieval?ref=recs

I don't get why they'd do that. It's not more expensive to ship a package to Norway or Switzerland, than sending it to Malta or Romania. It's not like I live on an island in the South Pacific, but if I did, I would be treated the same way as I am now.

Why couldn't they just write "Europe" and not "EU"? Are they really so ignorant that they don't know or care that some European countries aren't EU-members?

Also, these games are usually transported on transport ships which arrive in either Rotterdam or Hamburg, both of which are really a lot closer to southern Norway, than Greece or Spain.

Zingraff - They're covering 50% of VAT / import fees, so obviously it's easy to do that for the EU. They're making a list of countries that backers would like added, and Norway is already on that:

Just about $100 shy of the quarter million mark. So, yeah, not gonna hit a full million unless it suddenly captures a lot of public interest. They're working on getting a fulfillment partner in the EU to try to lower the shipping costs even more.

Hello everyone. The kickstarter is in it's last 32 hours. Just fair warning. I bet this will go into mass production, but I am not gonna bet the farm. I love this guy's rules. He made my favorite childhood game.

I feel pretty stoked to have got the signature edition /brag_end>

This is only the 2nd Kickstarter I have ever backed, and I think that WW2 enthusiasts, especially A&A enthusiasts will be bummed if they miss it.

I am really looking forward to this one!

I've backed it, this is the kind of game that doesn't get made without Kickstarter (huge map, high quality components, so not much margin). It looks awesome, check it out for the final day!
