Just noticed the Gorgon is not available on FW website anymore so kinda venting about the lack of transport options in the milita list atm lol. I mean something smaller than a superheavy would have been nice before, but now that the ONLY non-flyer transport is gone it's kinda annoying to a large degree. Give us trucks or proto-Chimeras without the turret or something?! Anyone else have thoughts on this?

They are probably updating the mould. A lot of FW kits have gone off sale whilst new moulds have been made, especially if they have changed the component pieces slightly. Email them and ask if it's coming back or gone for good.

This is actually one of the main reasons I don't play Heresy. Your transports options are a Super Heavy that's been out of production forever, or a Rhino for a specific unit with a specific providence, and only if you don't want Special Weapons in the unit.

Speaking of which, why do the Militia have NO special weapon options besides Grenadiers?!

I just hate that there are no real basic transports for the Militia, I would take some av11-10 trucks for gods sake lol

Honestly when I think about it I'm surprised there wasn't a generic transport option like how the Ogryn option is stated to be any number of things. They could have had it started as open topped, upgrade to closed, extra armor, "dozer blade" to represent walker type transports (ignoring terrain) or some other equivalent, upgrades to speed, search lights for advanced sensors, camo net for stealthy things, options of auto cannon, heavy bolter, multi laser, heavy flamer, etc.. You could do alot to have anything from simple logistical trucks to APCs to weird walkers or skimmers, heck if they wanted to limit people from taking too many transports with different rules make it one of the provenances of war- have a list of options you'd pick and they would be universally applied to each transport purchased for each squad for X amount of points.

...I really want this now.

Basically the Militia equivalent to the Mechanicum "make your own tank" option. Yeah I would have really appreciated that, would have opened up some great modeling options as well.

I agree. A neat little like, Dedicated Transport choice, like so:

"Local Transport" Most of the Imperial militia use either local transports or transports manufactured on their homeworld that are not related to any known Imperial design

BS | F | S | R
5+ | 9 | 9 | 8 Unit type: Vehicle, Transport

Special Rules: Open-Topped
Wargear: None

Options:
- May remove the Open-Topped special rule

- May add one of the following:
- - Improvised Armour (+1 to each facing)
- - Armor plating (+2 to each facing)
- - Heavy armour plating (+3 to each facing)

- May take a Thermic Combustor engine (the Fast special rule)

- May take one or two of the following weapons in any combination:
- - Heavy stubber
- - Autogun
- - Flamer
- - Hunter Killer Missile

- May take one of the following options:
- - Lascannon
- - Heavy Flamer
- - Heavy Bolter
- - Autocannon
- - Battle Cannon (if this is taken, the Transport Capacity drops to 5. May not be combined with Heavy Armour Plating)

- May have one of the following crew upgrades:
- - Trained Crew (BS 4+)
- - Grenadier Crew (BS 3+)

Capacity: 16 models

(Points omitted because I am bad at balance)

Yeah! I saw that! Transport capacity is small, like 12 or less I think, but it opens up a lot of options for Militia players who don't want to use SotDA trait. The rules that are floating around say it has a multilaser base I I don't see it lol. If it does have capacity 12 it will be cool to maybe see some special weapon armed grenadier squads scooting around in these to cap objective.

10 men, and it's basically a rhino, but for SA. which is good, because by god, Dracosans are not the best for flamer squads.

That's the solar auxilia. Militia get a couple of conscript horde units, grenadiers (two specials per unit), a heavy weapon squad, and a sniper squad.

There is no such thing as a hobby without politics. "Leave politics at the door" is itself a political statement, an endorsement of the status quo and an attempt to silence dissenting voices.

Their command squad can take special weapons as well. My gripes with milita are as follows:

1. No real transport options beyond OOP superheavy and provenance specific.

2. No cavalry unit... I need a cavalry unit! Lol

3. Only 1 unit can take a nuncio-vox.... doesn't make much sense, especially when the recon squad seems like a perfect spot for one!

Im really hoping that in future publications FW will print additional provenances to spice up the list of them already available. Maybe even release specific units or provenances to represent regiments from the books or black library novels,

I have heard the Gorgon is making a return soon. The Aurox is the SA varient that can only carry 10 troops. There is going to be a specific Milita varient which I believe can carry more troops.

Their command squads can only take a few specials. Bolters, Heavy Stubbers, and Grenade Launchers. The only way to get melta or plasma is in Grenadier squads, and only if they're 12+ man squads.

Tbh when I played them at LVO the lack of special weapons didn't seem to matter much. Their other weapon options make up for it pretty well. TBH the list does not really seem well suited to standing alone in the Age of Darkness anyway, relying on allies to really make it work well (which makes sense in the background as well I think).

I think that's fair. It's a good list as an allied detachment or a primary with a big allied detachment.

I think their biggest problem is the lack of a tertio or platoon system - you can fill all 6 troop choices with 20-man infantry squads for little more than the price of a legion tactical squad.

You run out of deployment zone and force organisation slots long before you run out of points....

Assault squads (jump packs with paired pistols), cavalry and imperial army land speeders all used to be a thing.

It's just a thought: there's some old artwork for guard assault squads, and some old artwork:

Paired pistol would be quite different to generic blade & pistol squads - Blast pistols actually deliver decent punch.

The grav-chute parts on the Elysians would make for a good starting point. If you could find something like the thrusters on Thallaxii and stick one down the centerline so you have one 'thruster' with the grav panels as stabilizers...
