So couple of questions about Black Legion warbands.
1 how big are they exactly?
2 do they each have access to their own supply of cult troops or do they have to petition one of the 4 god specific warbands to lend them some
3 do they tend to follow Abbadons idea of not dedicating themselves to one god in particular?
Thanks for any answers.

The size is fairly variable, however cult troops tend to be their own, and quite often they dedicate themselves mono god, look into the codex for some examples.

1650 points approx. of deathwatch
2500 points aprox. of alpha legion and thousand sons
50 power admech
60 power salamanders
70 power thousand sons

I did look into the codex which is why i asked. Because the background always made it sound like each black legion warband had access to some cult troops but the cult troops and god dedicated troops would join with the hounds of abbadon/bringers of decay etc when those warbands go to war specifically.

I was thinking they were individual warbands that would work with others sometimes but mostly go on their own i'm not an expert but that's what I think is right it might not be.

I am a Black Legion player and have applied the following logic to it.

The Black Legion was formed from the ashes of the Sons of Horus after Abbadon burned the body of the previous warmaster. His edict was simple, paint your armour black, bend the knee or be destroyed.

To this end the black Legion contains elements from all other traitor legions and renegade warbands.

The legion is fully mobile and each seperate warband acts independently unless called by the warmaster to a particular task.

Their numbers during the great crusade were estimated to be around 100 000 astartes, so at the moment their numbers usually swell in size before a mayor operatian, where they will inevitably suffer many casualties and spend the following years rebuilding.
So the warbands can number anywhere from a few dozen to a chapter strength but due to the military support their warbands tend to be large.

Abadon makes use of those elements who broke away from their parent legions and has also gained bastardised practices of how to make such cult troops (not as good as the original but pretty darn close).

The black legion follows only one of abbadons ideas universally and that is their pure hatred for the imperium from which they draw purpose, otherwise black legion warbands have a high number of mixed followers from all the seperate chaos gods.

Hope this answers your question.

1. It varies and depends on the strength of the commander.
2. BL has Plague Marines and Noise Marines as from their Legion AFAIK. They often employ Khorne Berserkers or Rubric Marines from outside outside tho.
3. Some are devoted to a God, others are not.

Ultra-Ultramarines are a great idea.
