Trying to gauge some information, suggestions and ideas to bring the following list up to 2000pts!

If the following was the base of your 2000pt list and you wanted to make it competitive as you could (but you can't change what is listed below) ... What would you add and why?

Allegiance: Death

Necromancer (110)

Battleline

Well you have a really strong base here with all those skeletons. Honestly I'm very tempted to recommend Nagash here between the support from his command ability (immune to battleshock will be useful in particular) and the support from his magic he could really add a lot to this army basically by hiding in the back for the first half of the game. Reserve any leftover points for summoning (I'm not sure how exactly they work put but being able to summon in a unit of morghast harbingers would be great).

I chose an avatar I feel best represents the quality of my post history.

I try to view Warhammer as more of a toolbox with examples than fully complete games.

I'm not really sure how to use nagash in matched play. his ability to setup double the amount of a summoned unit just means I have to pay up double the reinforcement points. And his ability to cast like 7 spells a turn seems wasted as I can only cast each spell once, unless I'm missing something I don't really see the use of nagash beyond his command ability which is a lot of points to pay for, despite being particularly good.

Surely arkhan can do the same thing for cheaper?

Nagash is extremely difficult to kill, with a good save, a 'save' against mortal wounds, and the ability to heal. This means that when put behind your large main line of skeletons he is unlikely to die except against very dedicated shooting lists. By the second half of the game the enemy army will be softened up and likely tied up in melee with all your skeletons, allowing Nagash to sweep through targets with ease thanks to being a very strong melee combatant. Keep in mind the command ability affects himself, so re-rolling hit and save rolls of 1 makes him considerably stronger than his basic profile may suggest.

Spell-wise he will rarely get to actually cast his potential eight spells but he has four potentials starting off (his two plus arcane bolt & mystic shield) and knows the spells of any death wizard on the battlefield. This means Nagash can cast that necromancer spell utilizing his cast bonus instead of having the necromancer do it himself with a greater risk of failing (or being unbound). Speaking of unbinding, both seraphon and tzeentch are strong in tournaments, something Nagash could help a great deal with because of his extremely strong unbinding potential.

Now this isn't to say Nagash is the greatest thing ever, but I do think that with 120 skeletons up front he is a strong contender. Particularly because you will want battleshock immunity on those units (inspiring presence doesn't help much here since an enemy will just target one of the two units that doesn't have it).

If you are interested in running Deathrattle through the Legion of Death battalion I have a couple of threads under AoS Battle Reports on list choices and reasoning. The army feels too slow without the extra 4" move (minimal drops is nice too) but I would certainly be interested in your experiences without it if you go that route.

If I can't change anything, I would take:

Mourngul
3 x 3 Spirit Hosts
2 Banshees

OR

3 x 5 Blood Knights
1 Vampire Lord on Nightmare

OR

Nefereta
Mourngul
Bat Swarms

Lists that, with advice. I've been drawn to looking at as a continuation of the base that I posted above.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Each list has its own gimmick.

1st: Regenerating flayers which will benifet from the banner planted also. roughly 5 attacks each, any 6's are mortal wounds on rolls to hit. Massive amount of wounds.

2nd: Nef + mounted king + Mourn = -3 to hit within 3", -2 to hit within 6", -1 to hit within 15"

3rd: All the skeletons move 8". Fast swarm rush.

4th: 24" Summoning with arkhan.
