Hello dakka!

I'm an extremely amateur painter that returned to the hobby this year. I decided to assemble and paint a Space Marine army. I started to buy models for a 7th edition army and 8th rolled in. (Luckily RG got love from the codex). So far I have faced obstacles in relearning to thin my paints and highlight properly, but I have been quickly improving. Sadly, I think I chose an overcomplicated paint scheme for my current abilities but I'm stuck with so it is adapt and improve from now on.

I plan to keep painting troops until I reach a decent enough level of skill to tackle my characters. I'm open to advice even if I am aware my results are subpar so far. I'm interested in getting a "medium" result. I am not in a rush for speed paint, (I actually enjoy the painting process), but neither I think I can reach a pro level easily.

I will be posting the units I have finished so you can see how I have been getting better.

This beakie was the first model I painted after a 8 years hiatus. Very sloppy job. Thick paints and horrible attention to details

Then I finished the Assault Squad entirely, beakies first, then plasmas then Sarge

Then went up to paint some plascannons Devastators, still too thick but at least I improved on details. The backpacks were still too thick and sloppy.

Then kept up with the Lascannon Devastators, where I finally started to get the "glaze" technique on the white coats. Just started, lots of space to improve yet. Packback details got interesting

And finally, two squads of intercessors, my first primaris, where I really started to improve pretty well.

Looking for the Rest of the II Legion

Looks really good for so long of a hiatus!! You could maybe get more out of the white armor if the bases were painted with a darker contrasting shade so the model as a whole doesn't feel washed out, but all-in-all they look very nice.

Very nice!

You're definitely improvijg so keep at it! White is a hard coour to paint. Theres a few different techniques that lead to a variety of finishes

Next miniature I added to my collection was a dreadnought. I went with the "easy to build" miniature as to not spend too much money in a mini I wasn't sure I was going to get right, being my first "large" scale model in years. I went for the redemptor because it was actually larger than a common dread

Then I went to finish my troops slots with a squad of sniper scouts. For these I decided to edit the paint scheme a bit, removing white as to create the camo look
