Ahoy all,

I was in the middle of building and painting a Iron Warriors CSM army and got side tracked because of the DG release really captured my imagination. Now I'm putting together a small DG army.

I didn't want my IW and my DG to be two separate armies since I had more or less decided I wanted to run them together whenever possible. I also decided that I didn't much like the profusion of spikes in spite of really enjoying the design otherwise. Finally by the time I got my hands on the models I wanted to build and paint everyone was going nuts painting up classic DG colors for their armies. I didn't want to be just another DG army with the same green scheme.

Enter my personal Vectorium, The Iron Blight. Blight within, Iron without! Essentially this allows me to justify (As if I need to) IW colors on DG models. It also lets me shave off as many spikes as I can manage to patch up while kinda sorta keeping within my own head cannon. So, enjoy my progress and please give as much C&C as you like. My painting and modeling are always meant to be improved upon and I like to hear what people think and more importantly, I love any and all advice on how to get better.

So, to start with, here are my first few Plague Marines. Most importantly, I'm trying to perfect the whole "Iron Blight" effect using heavy rust effects. These were done by base coating with Lead Belcher, washing with Nulin Oil and then again with Agrax Earthshade. After that I did a bunch of experimentation with some secret weapons weathering powders. Finally I went back and did a little Lead Belcher hightlighting and a bit of dry brushing.

Please let me know what you think of the effect. Click the images to get a larger view in the gallery.

Test one.

Test two.

Test three.

Test four.

Test five.

Once I have the whole army based like this (And have worked out exactly how I want the rust to look) I'll go back over every model doing the remaining spikes I couldn't justify shaving off in black with grey highlights. I'll do a heavy wash of green patina on the bronze. I'll do the flesh, pustules, buboes and tentacles in heavily washed white (Like Duncan's Poxwalkers) and then pick out the other details and necessary.

Looking forward to reading your comments and posting my progress.

There is a lot of my other work in my gallery if you are interested.

Thanks for looking.

Who knew, the new Plague Marine models make better Iron Warriors than they do Death Guard!

Yep, lookin' good, and far better than GW's. For my money the ThirdEyeNuke stuff is simply "the" best ones I can envision.

I like the "not" East India Trading Company shoulder pad on the first fella!

My first completed Plague Marine. This is about as far as I'm planning on going with the marines. I'll put more detail into the bigger models. Let me know what you think.

Holy crap.

That's almost exactly how I wanted to try and do Death Guard. These look great!

Now if you'll excuse me I'd like to steal some of these ideas.

I really like your take on the subject! I find the base models somewhat over the top.

You cut off the spikes? How am I supposed to know these are Chaos Marines if they don't have spikes?

All I know is, I won't be bleeding out after I pack up my minis now. It's a nice change from Blood for the Blood God.

These look dramatically better than GW's paint schemes. The removal of excess spikes and tendrils helps majorly as well.

You say Fiery Crash! I say Dynamic Entry!

*Increases Game Point Limit by 100*: Tau get two Crisis Suits and a Firewarrior. Imperial Guard get two infantry companies, artillery support, and APCs.

I love the emphasis on a Rust theme in DG.
Great Work!

Generic characters disappearing? Elite units of your army losing options and customizations? No longer finding that motivation to convert?

Evening all,

More updates on the Iron Blight. A five month old makes it slow going, but I'm managing.

Typhus, the boys, and a WIP Hellbrute. Also sneak peak of my Deamon Prince of Nurgle!
