Trying to make some choices for some general/heavy shooty units. As the rest of my army is melee based (DPs and BS). Thing is I don't even really know where to begin when comparing these guys. There are hellbrutes, decimators, contemptors, dredero, and Leviathans. Too many choices and it's hard to figure out which is the most efficient at blapping things from across the board. What should I be paying attention to? Range? Dakkadakka? Survivability? Which do you think is the best?

I just use a ml tl las HelBrute.
4 las Cannon and 2 ml shots per turn with 1cp. Yes please.

Endless Cacophany is 2CP? I would usually try and save that stratagem for Obliterators or Noise marines for maximum output

If you are Alpha Legion then seriously look at helbrutes. If you are not Alpha Legion, then your trait won’t matter and so go with a Storm Laser Decimator. You might go with that regardless of AL trait anyway. The laser is assault and cheap. It’s still got a claw and helflamer. Invulnerable save and regeneration make Decimators a nice buy.
