So. Zimbabwe has a potential coup.

https://www.google.co.uk/amp/s/news.sky.com/story/amp/military-vehicles-heading-towards-zimbabwe-capital-amid-political-purge-11126302

APC block roads. Tanks on way to capital.
Military deployed but not saying why, roads blocked or watched.

Mugabe fired a senior minister recently.
Seems he had freinds.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Seems Mugabe was sidelining a veteran member of his revolution, and making way for his wife to succeed him and leader.

General is a veteran of revolutionary era, they have been replaced by younger loyalists to Mugabe in youth wing.

So old guard vs new?

Mugabe in thr armies custody.

The general has a intirim president in place. Mugabe family power might not be as solid or even gone?

Early reports. Mugabe resigning or under house arrest.
Family to. Grace Mugabe might have to leave the country.

Whatever happened has moved quickly.

The statement from the army looks like classic coup rhetoric i.e. "We're not rebelling against the King, just those evil coutiers that are pouring poison in his ear".

Potentially this could be tied into the recent removal of Emmerson Mnangagwa as deputy president, as there were rumours he was plotting a coup.

I doubt this will change anything though, every Rhodie I have ever spoken to says that ZANU PF are a bunch of crooks and terrorists.

Aye. Things have been pretty calm so far though.
The army has minor skirmish but nothing worse reported.

Things might change but the coup seems to have taken and not faltered yet. Though it's also got backing of members of thr old political guard to some degree.

Just because Mugabe is in the Army's custody does not mean he is not still in charge. I lived out there as a kid/young teen before fleeing the white pogroms, and I know enough about the place to know that Mugabe is almost always pulling the strings to an extent. It is possible that he's finally lost control to the army (always a risk in places like this) but this is likely just a continuation of the struggle between the Croc and Grace for succession. Grace has tried everything she has to move him out of the picture in the last few weeks, she's even tried poison. This is him striking back.

Whichever of the two wins though, they'll have their work cut out. The ndebele will get restive once Bob goes, and we'll probably be looking at Gukurahundi MK 2.

I think it would be wonderful if Mugabe got shot. He's a really horrible old gak who has lived far too long and happy a life at the expense of the Zimbabwean people.

Unfortunately, as Ketara laid out above, the alternatives currently available aren't much better.

I'm writing a load of fiction. My latest story starts here... This is the index of all the stories...

Wow. If it wasn't for the effect all of this has had on the people of Zimbabwe, I'd really want to watch this movie.

I used to live next door to Mugabe. His presidential guard were exceptionally well paid (as well as being total bastards to their dogs). There was gunfire heard in that part of the city according to the BBC, so it's possibly some of the Croc's supporters in the Army stormed Bob's mansion and took him. The question is, can they hold him? There's no way the entire army will be behind this. Mnangagwa was head of the secret police, he might have military connections (he was Minister of Defence for a short time), but he won't be controlling the entire army by a long shot. If he doesn't have enough and he doesn't manage to grab Gracie, they'll be looking at a civil war.

And his friends include the commander in chief. Who likely has all his sub officers in the his pay roll.

Grace obviously has over reached this time, attempting to kill him. Not even Robert can cover for her forever.

And if she anything like she was in Paris or wherever. She can be a pretty nasty woman when she wants to be.

Gracie has been trying to lay the way for her son (who is an odious little toad I went to school with). The Croc isn't lying when he says that the Mugabes are trying to establish a dynasty. Not that he'd be any better in power, of course.

I'm familiar with a German word, Backpfeifengesicht, which means "a face in need of a fist". Sadly this is a colloquialism that has no exact English equivalent, but Mugabe makes me consider a word that means "A brainpan in need of a hollowpoint" as a suitable American twist.

I also want to hear more of Ketara's stories btw.

I will likely have many books out by the time I die, but I doubt any of them will be a biography. My life simply isn't that interesting.

To oblige you gents though, it may gratify you to know that his son got escorted to school by soldiers every morning. The headmaster insisted that they weren't allowed in the classroom, so they sat in some garages around the back the school. Day in day out, they had to sit there, smoking and playing cards.

Meanwhile, there was a woods area to the rear where us kids would play at 'warfare' during break. There were lots of extremely large rocks interspersed with large trees, so we occupied our time by assembling into tribes/teams, building forts out of branches and broken fences, and throwing things at each other. I may have lobbed a rock at Mugabe's son at some point. It was hard to tell given that you had to duck the missiles heading back in your direction after throwing (which occasionally was piss in a plastic bottle). Entertainingly, the soldier bodyguards came to watch once, got hit with such a bottle, clearly decided Mugabe Jnr wasn't worth that, and never spectated again.

Aye. The decaying corpse of the economy.
From one of thr largest net exporters to barely able to produce ernough food to support its own people.

Its a shadow of its former self.

...

And lol.
Mugabe son not even cared about by his bodyguards.

I'm almost surprised he was not educated in Swiss or international schools like Kim Jong UN.

Wait? Isn't Mnangagwa in bed with the British? Is the UK sponsoring the coup?

https://www.reuters.com/article/us-zimbabwe-mugabe-farming-sepcialreport/special-report-behind-the-scenes-zimbabwe-politicians-plot-post-mugabe-reforms-idUSKCN1BG18O

But the intelligence reports, which date from 2009 to this year, say a group of powerful people is already planning to reshape the country in the post-Mugabe era. Key aspects of the transition planning described in the documents were corroborated by interviews with political, diplomatic and intelligence sources in Zimbabwe and South Africa.

The documents and sources say Mnangagwa, a 73-year-old lawyer and long-standing ally of Mugabe, envisages cooperating with Tsvangirai to lead a transitional government for five years with the tacit backing of some of Zimbabwe’s military and Britain. These sources leave open the possibility that the government could be unelected. The aim would be to avoid the chaos that has followed some previous elections.

This unity government would pursue a new relationship with thousands of white farmers who were chased off in violent seizures of land approved by Mugabe in the early 2000s. The farmers would be compensated and reintegrated, according to senior politicians, farmers and diplomats. The aim would be to revive the agricultural sector, a linchpin of the nation’s economy that collapsed catastrophically after the land seizures.

The short answer is no. The long answer is hell no. The British have done their best to ignore Zimbabwe for the last twenty years, mainly to annoy Bob, who insists on blaming the British every time a Zimbabwean chips a toenail. They have no interest, and want no interest.

Fairly typical public school education.

The best reason for the British to get involved in this coup is so our soldiers can invent the nickname "Zimbers".
