So as the new nids come out i am looking at all my stuff that goes back to third edition. I realize that i should update my bases at least. Could someone help with what size bases i should have now.

Warriors?
Carnixes?
Brood lord?
Hive tyrant?
Guants?
Genestealers?

Also i guess my blood angels are in the same boat.
Regular marines?
Termies?
Dreads?

Thank you guys in advance yall are always so awesome.

For your BA guys, 32mm for the Tacticals, 40mm for Terminators, and 60mm for Dreads. That said, you don’t absolutely have to change the bases from the old sizes to new ones. The rule is “use the base supplied with the model”, so if you’ve got old tiny Terminators on tiny bases, they’re still legal. But the new sizes do look a lot better, in my opinion.

Basically, stick the on whatever looks best, as long as it’s an aesthetic choice, and you’re maintaining size or upsizing, not downsizing.

The way I see it is, if it's got the bases that came with it you're okay. As an example, my Terminators are the old metal ones that came with slotta bases. So that's what they're on even though the new terms are on larger bases. I've had nobody complain or say anything about their tiny bases.

Yeah its more that i want them to all match. Like i have a carnifex thats on almost a terminator base from 4th, a bigger one from more recent and then an oval one from one of the starters box. Also for the BA i do want them to be rebased as they need it to look better.

The current versions of the models come with:

Warriors - 50mm round (or 40mm - different kits have had different bases, frustratingly enough)
Carnixes - 60mm round
Brood lord - 40mm round for the older, slightly larger 'Stealer, 75x42 oval for the newer, significantly larger one on a scenic base
Hive tyrant - 60mm round
Guants - 25mm round
Genestealers - 25mm round, though personally I think 32mm looks better (similar situation to Warriors)

Regular marines - 32mm round
Termies - 40mm round
Dreads - 60mm round

Most people have no issue with minor variations, especially when they're thanks to the base that came with the model, but if you're looking for consistency, use the base sizes above.

If in doubt, the GW website does list the bases that come with kits.

I do wish this was something they'd called out in the unit entries, both in the Index books and in the Codexes which have been released thus far - for example, I can't find any reference to Codex: IG as to what size base a Heavy Weapon Team should be on, though it is obvious they're not on the same bases as the rest of the infantry.

This is, emphatically, why I will continue suggesting nuking Guard and starting over again. It's a legacy army that needs to be rebooted with a new focal point.

Confirmation of why no-one should listen to Kanluwen when it comes to the IG - he doesn't want the IG, he want's Kan's New Model Army...
