Unhealthy Competition With Other Legions

Toronto, Ontario

Hello all. I thought I'd ask the question in the title 'cause I'd love to hear about which RoW is your favourite to use with your legion and why. Not which is the one you use the most, but your favourite one to use.

I play World Eaters and my favourite RoW is armoured breakthrough. As much as I love marines with bolters and chainaxes, (most of my lists have at least 70 infantry), I also love tanks. Rolling in with 6 predators, 3 vindicators and a spartan full of cheerful tacticals is a great way to spend the afternoon. At 3000 pts, I still have tons of room for more troops or landraiders as the mood strikes me.

It also lets me take something almost completely different, even with the the same legion which keeps it interesting for me and my group, so they never know if I'm showing up with wave after wave of tactical marines 20 strong or blowing everything of value off the table and them charging in with much smaller groups of tacticals or flamer support squads in rhinos.

Come to think of it, I think I need more vindicators...

Prepare yourselves for the onslaught men. The enemy is waiting, but your Officers are courageous and your bayonettes sharp! I have at my disposal an entire army of Muskokans, tens of thousands of armour and artillery supporting millions upon tens of millions of the Imperium's finest fighting men with courage in their bellies, fire in their hearts and lasguns in their hands. Emperor show mercy to mine enemies, for as sure as the Imperium is vast, I will not!

Sons of Horus, long march. Generally I find many of the ROW's strip me of options I want or require models I can't use(not enough predators for armoured breakthrough, not enough drop pods for orbital assault etc) so rarely I actually use ROW but long march is fairly little restriction even if I self-limit myself of non-transported/non-deep striking terminators.

Hoping to field armoured breakthrough once myself Though collecting 2 legions at same time makes it hard especially if I want to avoid the newer mark plastic.

Would love to field fury of ancients but that seems like I really need to own tons of dreadnoughts as only advantage it really has is access to tons of dreadnoughts, more than you could normally field. But then it has that vp penalty...Weird ROW.

World Eaters player here. My favourite RoW is berserker assault using the blood madness rules. It fits my vision of the World Eaters and my play style perfectly. There's nothing better than 3 huge squads of chainaxe wielding maniacs led by Kharn running across the battlefield to chop up some guys. Bliss.

“Because we couldn’t be trusted. The Emperor needed a weapon that would never obey its own desires before those of the Imperium. He needed a weapon that would never bite the hand that feeds. The World Eaters were not that weapon. We’ve all drawn blades purely for the sake of shedding blood, and we’ve all felt the exultation of winning a war that never even needed to happen. We are not the tame, reliable pets that the Emperor wanted. The Wolves obey, when we would not. The Wolves can be trusted, when we never could. They have a discipline we lack, because their passions are not aflame with the Butcher’s Nails buzzing in the back of their skulls.
The Wolves will always come to heel when called. In that regard, it is a mystery why they name themselves wolves. They are tame, collared by the Emperor, obeying his every whim. But a wolf doesn’t behave that way. Only a dog does.
That is why we are the Eaters of Worlds, and the War Hounds no longer."

Iron warriors, unsurprisingly ironfire row. However, I never take more barrage than two quad mortars and two medusas.

Thousand Sons: GotCK is the obligitory "good" ROW, but there's some really fun ways to use our other ROW, even if it is super fiddly to get right.

Death Guard: Heavy supports in my troop slot so I can bring more grave wardens? AND basically everyone causes -1 T the first round of combat? Sign me RRRRIGHT up! Having used their other RoW, there's some fun shenanigans and thematic lists to be built, but forests are so rare locally, so that bit is lost to me :( But having a 3+ save, 5+ cover, AND FNP is funny to me.

Fists: Stone Gauntlet. Super solid, really sturdy, and nothing inherintly OP, which (to me) is super nice.

Blood Angels: Day of revalations, because nothing is more lulzy to me than my allied detachement of a Praetor and ~45 assault marines coming down to be a Giant red target that wants to gut ya.

I'll never be able to repay CA for making GW realize that The Old World was a cash cow, left to die in a field.

The Black Reaving for my Luna Wolves. It is such an iconic RoW and is really fun to play as a spear tip.

GotCk, because it is also iconic...and just good.

Wondering Why the Emperor Left

My personal favorite Rite of War is Coils of the Hydra, because it enables the Alpha Legion in a "best case scenario, everything has gone according to plan" situation, especially when combined with Alpharius. That and Sacrificial Offering both allow me to feel the most Alpha Legion like when playing.

For Night Lords, it's got to be Angels Wrath. I love the raptor cult type army, especially lead by Curze and his raptor bodyguard, but the Horror Cult just doesn't do enough. Angels Wrath emphasises the assault marine type army, while also giving hit and run to help with the Night Lords style of not fighting fair and running away from fights they can't win.

Word Bearers, Last of the Serrated Sun. Nothing is quite so much fun as an army made entirely out of drop pod Gal Vorbak and associated deep strike elements.

Raven Guard place so much emphasis on deployment and the first 1-2 turns that certain Rites are worth their weight in gold.
Decapitation Strike is a staple of the Legion for a reason, and has carried them ever since its release. However recently I've been looking into Recon Company as an alternative.

- Army-wide Shrouded speaks for itself
- Same go-first bonuses as if you were running Maun
- Replace your 'Tax'tical squads with Meltabomb-toting Recon.

With the rumoured changes to grenades coming, rolling 3 squads of 5 Scouting Meltabombs from your compulsory selection seems gravy.

I want Liberation Force to work but it seems to really struggle. It is hard to see it as anything other than a gimped Traitor list running some Cult allies.
