Quick question on something I’m struggling to find an answer to, as I’d taken my previous thoughts to be right. The question surrounds regain CP mechanics, mainly via warlord trait/ability.

If someone deploys their warlord before spending the CP on a deep-strike stratagem, would you then be able to roll in an attempt to regain the CP via the Warlord trait/ability?

Usually these abilities only kick in when your Warlord is deployed on the tabletop (i.e not in reserve or a transport), but, does the deployment phase count as being “deployed” for said purpose?

Originally I thought no – but, I’m starting to question that perception.

What are your thoughts on this?

In short we don't have enough info to know. It all hinges on when the warlord is considered to be "alive" (For Ultramarines) or "on the battlefield" (for Astra Copywritium). Nothing short of an errata or official GW FAQ can answer that question.

From my understanding so long as your warlord or character with the ability is on the board at the time you use the stratagem you can then attempt to regenerate your CP.

At least that is how I have been playing it with my Autarch.

Yeah, the question was raised in terms of the Autarch recently with the example being -

Deploy Autarch -> Put something in the webway -> roll to regain CP
