I am a huge fan of the alien and predator series. Both film and book. And I love 40k. I've been trying to figure out how to create a predator army in 40k. I've seen people use kroot or grey knights. But I'm not sure. Any ideas of which armies could work for the predator race?

Primaris reavers would be perfect. A head swap's all that's really needed. Ditch the backpacks, Mount some plasma pistols on the shoulder and you're good to go.

Automatically Appended Next Post:
Wolfin would also work.

Would rievers or Wolfen match the lore though? Of small elite groups of warriors?

They're more expensive than GK. If you really want to do small groups, do assassins.

I'm interested to know, what is Yautja?

I always think Eldar Striking Scorpions look Predator-ish, especially the Exarch...

Their rules are quite fluffy too with the ability to stealth appear anywhere on the battlefield.

I've had the perfect idea for years now. Beefed up Kroot Hunting Clans. They would be the ancestors of the Kroot they tried to run from and the civil war that brought them to ruin. Well who said all the Kroot went back to the old ways? Basically they would rip off the Yajuta pretty crazy. Also look at the dredds on the Preds and Kroot. Now imagine Kroot being beefed up melee gods and you got the idea.

Also the way the Predator climbs around in the jungle hunting Arnie looks a lot like a crawling Kroot.

You could even give them cloaking tech and plasma guns from the Tau because of a trade deal. heck the Tau would love to have some more allies in the field and especially ones who want to be more well armed than the Kroot.

They would be the Xenos version of the Deathwatch. A small highly elite army with super customization. Their unique rules would allow higher and higher ranking Kroot Hunters to take weapons from other classes and Kroot Hunt Masters to take a single weapon relic from any other faction.

Think how cool that would be. They are not "evil" they are strictly amoral and will take work for any faction human or alien, but they do have slight preferences to the Tau because they provide them with a head start in recreating their glory days instead of slowly having to get their themselves.

Instead of the shamans guiding their overall progress the Hunters would want to guide themselves to improving their base Kroot form instead of allowing them to "degrade" into the impure animal forms the shamans let them.

The only faction they would hate are obvious ones like Nids and the Kroot we know who went back to their shaman ways.

The Yautja are basically Predators. The name was introduced in the Aliens vs. Predator: Prey book by Steve Perry in 1994.
There is another "clan" name for the Predators, which is "Hish Qu Ten", which was introduced in the Predator: Forever Midnight book in 2006.
If you are interested in Yautja, I recommend checking out some Predator comics including Big Game, Bad Blood and Concrete Jungle.
The Eldar Striking Scorpion looks like some of more exotic Predator types (Lava Planet Predator!) which were released by Kenner in the 90ties.

The followup to the first Dark Horse "AvP" comic (where Noguchi gets to joins a predator clan - because she's A) "been blooded" and B ) has a queen's head mounted as a trophy on her shack is also worth a read. If only from the "stranger in a strange land" human view of their society.

Those novels ARE based on many of those comics, after all.

The Perry novels are the only really good ones. There is a trillogy. Definitely recommend.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

IMO, there are a few ways to approach predators.

1) as a "I want an army that feels the way predators feel in their own canon" - i.e. lone hunters that blow in with super powerful weaponry and enact slaughter. I think the best way to do this would be Custodes - you've got a character with a - to hit bubble (stealth field), powerful melee and shooting weapons, small unit sizes/overall model count, etc. I'd take large units of allarus terminators, deep strike them and use the "split up" stratagem. Bring some allies to be on the board and just fluff them as beleaguered troops holding out against an overwhelming enemy, and then the predators show up inadvertently saving them but sparing them due to their weakness.

2) i want "what if predators were in 40k at their canon power level" - i.e. still decent, even for 40k, but MUCh closer to an even footing with the monsters 40k has to offer. I'd probably go deathwatch, maybe like..character heavy Drukhari? a DE archon with a shadowfield, blast pistol and huskblade feels pretty on point to what a predator would be in 40k terms. They roll up in venoms with a bunch of mercenary "hunt partners" and work to outdo eachother.

"So you think, Kaiba! I declared my Thousand Sons the cult of Duplicity, which means all my psykers have access to the Sorcerous Facade power! Furthermore I will spend 8 Cabal Points to invoke Cabbalistic Focus, causing the rubrics to appear behind your custodes! The Vengeance for the Wronged and Sorcerous Fullisade stratagems along with the Malefic Maelstrom infernal pact evoked earlier in the command phase allows me to double their firepower, letting me wound on 2s and 3s!"

Yautja are the species that the predator belongs to.
That's what they are really called. The movie is called Predator, but the alien is a Yautja.
The Alien from the Alien films are usually called Xenomorphs.

Wouldn't "xenomorph" just mean "alien lifeform"? Like I'm sure they call themselves SCREEEEEARJGHGHGLEAAAAAGH (really difficult to pronounce without the tongue-mouth, tbh) but the humans just call them xenomorphs because they're the first alien life they've encountered.

Dark Eldar Mandrakes give you low power predators to match up points-wise against stealer xenomorphs.

Assassins for higher power predators - the culexus gives you the invisibility and short range plasma caster-type weapon.
