Hi,
Maybe there's a source of this information already on DakkaDakka-I've searched, but haven't found anything, so apologies if this is replicating an existing topic.
Basically I thought it might be nice to compile an easy-to-find list of kits which are a good source of bits for kitbashing. Obviously you can kitbash using just about any kit, but I'm not talking about buying a standard Tac marine box and throwing together something with a nonstandard pose-I'm talking about things like the Sternguard kit, which is filled with goodies for making all kinds of different models.
My own interest is in CSM/SM (Deathwatch looks like a nice source for both, as well...), but all are welcome.

Carnifex torsos are great for many nid conversions. I have built harpys, exocrines, and malanthropes out of carnifex torsos and it never looks out of place or like a carnifex. Plus the kit comes with a ton of heads and weapons.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

For Orks the Stormboyz kit is full of extra, unique, helmets, close combat weapons and pistols; I find it really good for making hard boys or customising bikers etc.

A lot of the more interesting kits for random parts are things like the Flagellants, Ogre Bulls, Empire Militia (RIP), Chaos Warriors (and Knights), Zombies, Chaos Spawn- They've got a whole wealth of parts that are perfect for cannibalizing for other projects.

The Imperial Guard Command Squad kit has nearly every hand-held weapon available to the guard, as well as a bunch of fancy character type bits. Great for custom Inquisitors and such.
Other than that, the Guard Heavy Weapons Squad kit includes a crazy amount of detailed heavy weapons. I've cannibalized parts of those to make vehicle interiors.

You say Fiery Crash! I say Dynamic Entry!
*Increases Game Point Limit by 100*: Tau get two Crisis Suits and a Firewarrior. Imperial Guard get two infantry companies, artillery support, and APCs. |

As someone who likes to kitbash HQs, the Sternguard set has been pretty invaluable.

Bit light on choices for Eldar, but the Harlequins kit is nice for weapon options. Enough for a whole squad of pistols and swords or all kinds of Harlies special weapons. Considering another box just for the Shuriken Pistols for plastic Aspect conversions, already used some from my first box for a couple of characters.

100% True. One of the best boxes I've dealt with. SM Devastators and Sternguard also good.
Scion Command Squads, too!

If you wanne kitbash marines the SW marine pack is great! Blood angels is very nice, but they are very specialised. Grey Knights has some good parts, but it is hard to use the bodies. SW and chaos will look greta together.

The necron immortals/deathmarks kit is quite good. It's also quite cheap.
There are 5 models in it, with 3 sets of weapon combinations, resulting in 10 sets of hands, lots of arms and 5 extra heads, 5 torso parts.
Especially the hands were nice when I converted flayed ones from warriors using extra arms and hands I had lying around

This thread is vague to the point of uselessness.
It all depends on what you want to make. Guard sized guys, marine sized guys? Non humans? Beefy? Slim and stealthy? Themed in some way?
The answer to the kitbash question depends entirely on what models you want to make and what kind of look you are going for..

For chaos you might want to look at the Frostgrave cultist pack.
Lots of pointy hoods, masks, skulls and zombie parts. Great for cultists or bling for your CMSs.

The Space Marine Commander is good for giving you one of pretty much every kind of weapon. Problem is, it's just one of every weapon, not multiples, so not that good for kitbashing a whole squad. Still, for doing heroes it is a decent source of bits.

For CSM pretty much any of the new AoS chaos kits are great, especially the khorne ones. I've picked up a few weapons from bitz shops already as they look proper nasty
