Is Jar of the Four Winds usable with Breath Weapons? We have been playing that it is not, as +12" to attacks that always hit on 4+ is pretty damn good. Still someone has switched to a new army and wants an official rules citation.

Edit: Never mind. Found it on page 78 of the hardback. "When an item refers to 'normal" ranged attacks, it cannot be used with Breath Attack or Spells."

Correct, the Jar is however still very useful for many units, bows, crossbows or rifle with the har will get a 36" range, but even better firebolt or the 18" range crossbow of the naïads can also greatly benefit from the extended range.

Units with throwing weapons can also use the jar to get 24" range, giving you something similar to bows (or even crossbows when your throwing weapons are piercing (1)) that can move and shot without restriction or malus.

The main limit is that as usual you tend to prefer to pu expensive artefact on shooting hordes so you get more benefit from your points, and some of the potential best targets come only at the regiment size at best, so it's less a no brainer for them (but still good if you know what you are doing).

I also like to use the jar as a pretext for some nice convertion or kitbashing, for exemple should I give the jar to an arquebus unit, I would make sure to put models with long rifle in the unit to represent the jar and extented range.

Thanks for the reply. My one use of the Jar has been a Dwarf crossbow horde (in a list with Ogre Shooter allies) so I could have 2 range 36" units. Have also built a list with a Sea Guard horde with the Jar, although that Elf army list has not played yet. Had not thought of using the Jar on throwing weapon units, so thanks for that. (Been facing Varangur or Brotherhood lately so more Piercing is useful.)
