Not sure everyone will be able to read the article. . .

https://www.bloomberg.com/news/features/2017-11-27/putin-and-united-russia-have-some-very-liberal-moscow-neighbors

Not sure how sensational the article is. I am sure the Kremlin crushes all that opposes it. But who knows, maybe more Russians than we give credit for don't like the status quo.

I expect that opposition politicians will experience heinous dongcopter attacks in the future.

17 out of 125? That doesn't seem like much. Like much to do about nothing much. That's hardly an "envelopment."

So yeah. pretty sensational, but on a level of "we're out of normal stuff to write about lets pull something so far out of our butts it might as well be a lie."

Moscow has a lot of liberals? Wow, I am so surprised.
Moscow always had a lot of support for liberal parties (at least, a relative lot by Russian standards), this is nothing new. And most certainly not a rebellion. Most Russians do not live in Moscow. Putin and United Russia gain their support from the countless small cities and towns that dot Russia. That is where most of the Russian population lives and where Putin reigns supreme. As long as Putin maintains that powerbase, he will never have to worry.

So yeah. I am used to Western stories about Russia being sensationalist, but this one reaches a new level
It does contain a lot of good information though, if you don't know a lot about local Russian politics. Just try to look beyond some of the sensationalism and political bias. It is mostly just the headline that makes me facepalm.

If they were a real threat Putin would have had their leaders charged and convicted of nonsense crimes.

This isn't really a story about a rising tide of opposition to Putin, but it is a decent piece about how Russia, like all countries, actually has some pretty complex dynamics once you take a more detailed look.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

Adam Smith, who must have been some kind of leftie or something.
