Old Tyranid Warriors look like globs of awkward bubblegum.

Done many searches to find what other people have done to make old plastic warriors fit in with 4th ed+ ‘nids, but not managed to find anything much.

What would dakka suggest?

Just take them as is. As the Hive mind is constantly experimenting with mix-and-match variants of its various creature type strains, there's fluff justification for running old OOP models along with newer variants.

Personally, I like to think as headcanon that the very first Hive fleets which invaded the Milky Way, Behemoth mostly, all looked like 2nd and early 3rd Edi Nids, while the later Hive fleets, Kraken, Leviathan & Co., look like Nids from 3/4th Edi onwards.

He's a Tyranid Prime! A master strategist, with a consciousness born of a thousand battles, births, and deaths. Each time gaining new experience and a slightly altered Gene-Code. A truly terrible opponent from a time before the Great Devourer even entered our galaxy.

One of my favourite pieces of art. Love the Scorpion just dumping Mandiblasters into the bug's face while the bug rips the helmet off the nearby guy almost by accident.

Remnants of Hive Fleet Alpha?

This lot have their upper arms with Bone Swords or Death Spitters, and awful little swimming Paddles/Oars as their middle limbs. Later ‘nids have spikey bits on the upper arms and ranged weapons at the mid.

Would it be cromulent to swap the weapons so the spikey bits are above the shooty, and not use the flattened diggy claws?

Attempts to tac them together Protonid style, or as Quadrupeds, have not yet resulted in anything eye pleasing. Attempts to bulk armour with blutac, as future greenstuff projects, have also not reduced the awkwardness of the models...

Actually, I might understand why the choppy bits would be with the lower limbs, and the shooty bits are up top.

With their taller form, the ranged weapons would tower over literally lower lifeforms, getting a far superior field of fire. Having the close combat morphs on the lower limbs also means not having to stoop down to chop some smallish opponent (like a Squat) to little edible bits.

It's simple logic.

Oh, wait. It's WH40K and GW we're talking about...

I'll happily take donations or negotiate competetive prices!! Be kind to your army ant Warriors and let them join a loving and caring collective where they will be nurtured to health and live happily among their bretheren, working together in harvesting sustinence for Our Glorious Queen.

If all goes well my latest putchase should get me to 74. I think it's crossed over to pathological.

For some reason I thought there would be more people out there that had modified/updated/upgraded their old plastic ants.......

Well, if they are to be just straight up assembled and painted to fit with the rest of the army:
I have 9 of them (four busted up and poorly painted).
- which weapons to use?
Bone Swords up top with rending claws below? Bone sword up top with deathspitter below? Deathspitter up top rending bel........ ??¿ D-:

I think I've seen someone convert them by giving them the enhanced senses carried head and replacing all arms with a single set of large (current warrior-sized) rending claws. They run them as Dark Eldar Clawed Fiends.

Personally I think they look awesome as is. Love that 2nd ed art, time to dig up my old codex again. They don't really fit into the current nid look however.

i can't stand the 2nd ed warrior models. They look so cheesy. "Rawr! fear me!". No point in trying to force yourself to like it, chances are high it just will not work. I would sell them to people who appreciate their design more.

Originally, they should have had a pair of boneswords or a deathspitter in the top arm sockets, and the claws below. If a deathspitter and pair of boneswords is now an allowed option, I'd go with boneswords on the upper arms and deathspitter below.

Yep, swords 'n' claws or guns 'n' claws are the classic combos and look great!

Thanks for posting that, Ratius. They look pretty cool. Had a look through some of your gallery and might have to make some ‘nid terrain :-)

As for the gear, ‘tis very tempting to have a Bone Sword and Lash Whip up top, and Deathspitter lower.... would have to hack up some bone swords to make the whips though.. . ...might just make the first 3 with dual bones + deathspitter & see how it goes (can always convert sword to whip later). :-)
