Hi all,

The wife and I calculated how much I spent on GW or related products from Jan 1st 2017 to today (I am in soooo much trouble).

$10200 AU this year (approx.)... As average earners this is not an extreme amount but it is for a causal hobby (I don't play much and as I was told could be spent on going towards a holiday in say Hawaii etc)....

Though I did sell an army for a lot so mitigated my chastising...

How do you justify your war gaming passion to your better half? My main excuse is stress relief after work (I paint 2 days a week, Guitar 2 days a week and Weights 3 days a weeks, so is in my stress relief regime).

I'm single so zero, not that I spent much anyway after codexes started coming out and it became clear how 8th was going.

I got to Salute in London every year with a friend. His wife, in ten minutes, spent more on a handbag than he did all day at the show. That's how he justifies it.

I think we've jointly spent about £500? That covers all the codexes, rules, dice, supplements, about three thousand points of Tyranids, twenty five Scions, two Chimeria's Moonbase and a boards worth of scenery, thirty or so marines and entry to a few clubs and tornies.

It's definitely been worth it.

I've probably spent about $1900-2300 for models, books, and travel this year. Not horrid.

Considering how much debt im in though........

Not sure probably £500-600 this year. My girlfriend isn't the type to get upset unless profligate spending messes with our saving plans and that amount over a year? Not very much at all. I'd get upset if spending messed with our saving plans too, mind, we need that new house year after next.

I’m divorced, so the Ex doesn’t get to complain, and my minis get to live in the good china cabinet. I do probably spend a little more these days then I did when we were together though; I was the one who was more fiscally responsible. She probably spent more on hair dye to hide the grey in a year then I did on models.

But from a “how much did you spend on the hobby this year” POV, this year’s outlay:

Money spent on the hobby: $670

Superglue $2.50
Deathwatch LR $65
Triumvirate of the Primarch $73
Centurions $65 (note- purchaded via gift card from Amazon)
Strat Collecting: Skeleton Horde $75 (also via guilt-free Amazon gift card)
Kromlec bits ~$40
Dark Imperium, Imperium 1, pot of leadbelcher $175
Spray Primer $4
SM Codex $45
Repulsor, micro sol/set $82 (Amazon cards)
UM upgrade sprue - $13
- Dark Imp. char sprue. -$20 (sold spare sprue w/ 5 intercessors, 2 Lts, ancient to The Boy)
Brush - $10
Eldar Codex, 1 pot Waaagh flesh $41
5 Hexwraiths $15 (NOS 2nd hand)
SC: Eldar (new) $75

My job has a reward program where we can earn gift cards. I view those as guilt-free found money, so spent them on the hobby without worry. I’ve also been better about actually spending gift money on myself, rather then just dumping it into the operating budget.

Justify it?

40 odd bucks on index imperium 2...thats my spending for the year.
I cant even justify to myself spending $120+ AU for a basic sister squad, yet alone sinking 10k in the hobby. We just dont have that sort of income at the moment.

Id be budgeted maybe 100 for the year and would have to be extremely selective and bargain savvy to capitalise on that.

I live alone so no trouble justifying my spending, and my partner also plays.

And also... I like the comparison between a year's worth of hobby and a couple of weeks in Hawaii. What gives you more pleasure? In my book, there's very little that would be worth more to me than filling my time with pleasurable activities, and if I swapped a year of hobbying for a two week holiday, that would mean 50 weeks of utter boredom...

...and the Blood God would not allow it...

It's also kind of hard to contain one's Hawaiian vacation to out-of-office hours.

Wife and I are DINKS, and we finally ironed our budget out (after years of not having one) where we'll each have a monthly 'allowance' to do whatever we want with. No questions, no issues, no judging (maybe a little). My wargaming budget will come out of that.

Until now, my spending has been pretty reasonable. A kickstarter here and there, some new paints and superglue, and a character or two. I had to buy some bits to finish some half-assembled models on my desk, but that was under $20, so it flew under the radar.

I'm happier now with a personal spending allowance. I'll set aside some money for wargaming and video games, and the rest will get saved for a car down the road.

As long as the Bills are payed she doesn't complain (though she also plays so there is that). If anything I had to complain to her! " you don't need more models, you have 10 warriors, 10 gargoyles, some venomthropes, and a hive tyrant to still put together!" Lol.

Me and my wife both play, so we don't have to justify the cost of our mutual fun to anyone And it doesn't really compare all that bad to our other activities and spendings, it's on a cheap side really, totaling around $3000 for the last two years.

If your better half is complaining at you for spending money on a hobby/pastime you love, then perhaps they aren't your better half.

I'm probably at around $1400ish for 40K this year, which feels like a lot, and also not very much at the same time. My wife and I both have hobbies, so it's not really an issue to begin with.

Been quite restrained this year, odd considering Chaos have been getting a lot of attention end of last year and this year.

Probably about £500 for the year. The biggest buy being Dark Imperium.

As others have said, I am single and yes I have money. Pattern forming.....

Please note, for those of you who play Chaos Daemons as a faction the term "Daemon" is potentially offensive. Instead, please play codex "Chaos: Mortally Challenged". Thank you.

My brothers and fiance usually just buy me what I want for Warhammer on my birthday/holidays/anniversaries. So my actual spending is usually just on paints and small stuff here and there so its never much money. It's really the only hobby i have that i spend any money on though so even if i spent a lot i doubt she would care.
