I’m not very experienced at modelling. I’d love to practise/learn so I’m asking for ideas of custom tyranid models I could try and make. It can be a new version of an existing kit (eg. A custom lictor), or it could be something completely new (eg. ... I can’t think of anything - hence the post!!). I was thinking of using a hive crone head with the mouth gun cut out - leaving quite a large and scary looking mouth...

Could be anything from the size of a ripper to as big as a (I was going to say a hierophant but I ain’t committing to that!) Dimachaeron. Go nuts! This is kind of a “help me think” post and kind of a “go (sensibly ) crazy”! Tell me as much as you can about your creature - fluff, appearance, ideas on how to model it, favourite food, anything!

Looking forward to this!

If you want to do that model then consider this kit https://www.games-workshop.com/en-GB/Sylvaneth-Alarielle-the-Everqueen

Tyranids are actually an easier army to craft in some ways because many of the models share the same overall look and structure so parts swap over very readily.

I'd say first a lot depends on how much sculpting you want to do VS how much kit-bashing. Kit bashing will typically use less greenstuff, whilst sculpting, of course, uses more sculpting putties. Of course kit-bashing can be expensive to do if you've not got much to hand as buying models to bash together is often an expensive option.

There will almost certainly be a mix of kitbashing and sculpting (depending on the idea). I want to for for something largish probably - not as fiddly and lots of large kits available to work from. And the leniency when modelling is one of the reasons I want to do a tyranid beastie

Keep the ideas coming guys!

For a stag beetle aspect the Carnifex already has a battering ram upgrade on Forgeworld; so I'd say carnifex and bigger.

I was going to vote for a 'fex with the wardroth beetle's horn.

Sortof like this:

But the bits for that seem impossible to find, so maybe the wardroth beetle with a 'fex face instead.

"Hey. DId he say rings are cool?!"
"No. He said They're Stupid."

"Cool!!"

Thing with Nids is you can really make them look however you want.

Just represent their weapons some way and your good as its a fairly unique army compared to the rest.

Someone has a Nid army here in the Gallery that looks like the Alien xenomorphs.
