I've mostly bought stuff from the GW webstore so far, but I'm looking to cut down on the prices a little. Does anyone know any alternative websites to shop on that are reliable and maybe a bit cheaper? I've checked wayland games, for example, and they look good, although I can't seem to find any info on shipping costs.

The maximum general discount you will find is 15%. The occasional sale could net you some extra savings, but these are a relationship with a store to get the heads up on sales.

The best way to build a collection "cheap" is to aquire used models. In large lots.

Done right this is fairly painless. Get isopropyl, windex and an ultrasonic jewelry clearner. Toss the painted models in, and come back in an hour with a tooth brush remove the paint.

Now the horror, enamel paints/primers can present interesting problems, spend the time to inquire how the model was primed and painted. Thdse models can still be stripped but leave it for someone else. The time is not worth the savings in general. If they are metal oop stuff, and you wsnt them, go for it. Just be ready to deal with some fun chemicals, and/or elbow grease.


Edit: avoid used fine cast it is a nurgle blight upon the world. Hell avoid fine cast. But really avoid used fine cast.

Where would you aquire used models, then? I've tried ebay, but EVERY TIME it's the same: the model either costs so much that with shipping included you might as well buy it fresh- or it costs even more than that.

Try facebook groups, we have a secondary market that is always selling off old armies. And a wider community that runs across 3 provinces to exchange models.

Also eBay. Puts a bunch of stores in one place and they almost all offer free shipping.

I'd imagine there is a swedish dedicated hobby forum with trade forum included. I'd try to find something like that.

For new models Element Games is great and reliable. I've heard Wayland Games has trouble getting orders shipped, but I have no experience myself.

For enamel paints on metal models, PineSol is the solution - though you need a good long soak, as in "Give it a week and then see how much you can get off of it, repeat."

I'll buy used minis if they're a good deal, but they have to be for me to go through the work of stripping and probably a lot of fussing over mold lines on assembled models rather than parts. There's the cost of stripping chemicals and the time required, which can be several hours for a squad of miniatures, depending on how thick the paint is and what paint they used. Not to mention dubious quality of assembly, unattractive poses, and other issues, like having to buy an entire army at once when you only need half of one.

If you have buckets of free time it's probably worth it, but unless it's below 50% retail, I personally would take a hard pass, especially if I couldn't inspect the models up close first.

Bartertown is the place for used minis.

If your after 2nd hand models, general domestic auction web sites is usualy the best way.
just type warhammer in the search bar on any site you find and see what comes up.

for us that lives in scandenavia, ebay is not realy worth it due to the shipping, unless you after rare or OOP models.

(oh an a nother thing, if your ordering from international web shops it is just not the shipping you need to add to se if it is cheaper or not then ordering from GW, it is your local customs too.....)

My FLGS has a huge selection of used models. There's some good stuff in there usually, at great discounts. Now, I realize that all FLGS won't have that, but some do, so if you go to a new town with such a place, see if they are selling used models.
