Nice job, they have a very gritty feel to them also I like the use of various sets to build the squad. Keep it up.

Eastern Frontier Exploratores

628th Praetorian Guard Cohort (wife's army)
827th Auxilia Cohort (ad mech fun)

Thanks man! Yeah didn't want a stock Cadian army. Got lots more models ready to paint but it's always raining where I live in the winter! Can't prime 'em!

Looks good. FYI Skull Takers is a World Eaters legion in the lore. It's Lord Zhufor's legion. .

It's also a verry old Guard regiment! (2nd/3rd edition) It's a fairly ubiquitous nickname for a trophy taking army of any race to be honest it will make more sense once I get the tanks in there.

Thanks man! Yeah I didn't just want an army of copy-paste Cadians so I shopped about for bits to give them a more unique look. Still got 40 troops to go hahaha. Glories of brigade detachments!

Your army is looking grea! I like how you distinguish your officers from your rank and file troopers.

Thanks man! The idea is that you can tell which officers came from the ranks and which were nobles back on their home planet! - Thieves, gangers and tribals lead by noble hive families. Will make even more contrast once I add the Beltainian Fusiliers (Like Armageddon Stormtroops - converted tempestus to form my elite guard).

Decent paint job, great overall vibe and subtle conversions throughout, I particularly like the skill over the heavy bolter; you really should clean the mold lines and perhaps drill the gun barrels on anything larger than a lasgun, flat metallic looks off, and visible mold lines really detracts from your capability.

Just going for tabletop standard to be honest, I want to play! As for the mouldlines in normal lighting they're pretty invisible, the flash on my camera brings it out more.

When you've got over 100 models to do for one army it's hard to make them all perfect! My next project will be more in detail as I will have something to play with in the meantime, in all honesty I am waiting for GW to finally do updated guardsmen of other regiments, then I'll put more effort into making them look pretty. (Waiting patiently for plastic Steel Legion).

But thanks for the crits. Could you elaborate on "Flat metallic looks off"?

I totally understand, I’m still in the process of redoing my IG, only Cadians left. Flat metallic= if you look at your flamers/grenade launchers from the front, it’s solid metallics, you should either drill a divot and paint it black or paint a inner black circle representing the barrel, the smaller lasgun aren’t noticeable, but the bigger ones are.

I love the guard, used to have a vostroyan army years ago, just getting back into it now and I want to be able to play ASAP but playing with grey models is not my jam.
Ohhhh, yeah I plan to drill them, I just haven't bothered yet, got so much to paint I'd rather just get all that's primed done now then worry about details like that ahaha.

That army's glorious - that's a crazy amount of variety right there. You could look at any given model and come up with a back story for them.

If you don't mind my asking, where'd you get the tank commander figure from?

Thanks man! Yeah I don't enjoy having the same few guardsmen heads repeated so i shopped around for parts.

It's the default out of the box tank commander body with a statuesque miniatures female veteran head. I saw the new black library covers and the one with the baneblade commander inspired me to have a female tank commander for my armoured division.
