So I made a mistake in buying a competitive army and not one I liked the look of. So now I sold that off and want to start my dream orks.

Where do I start it's hard for me to figure out what to do. I love all models I want them all lol. My main gripe is when the new codex is coming out and I don't want to spend money on chapter approved. For that price I can buy more boys.

You can start with the kult of speed box that just came out, it's a good deal. There was also a company that sold gw ork stuff for cheap, can't remember their name off the top of my head but it was a build + paint series that seemed like a good deal.

Out of curiosity, what was the army you sold?

UK

The Start Collecting! Orks and Kult of Speed Box are a pretty good investment. You can stick the Boyz into 1 unit of 20 to give them the boost to their attacks and put them in the Battlewagon.

The Nobz, Painboy and Big Mek can go in the Trukk (and just fit).

As for conversions go nuts. This is the very model that convinced me to start Bad Moons.

I would recommend that you pickup Index Xenos 2, to hold you over until the codex Orks drops. That way you will truly get a feel for the greenskins.

Cowards will be shot! Survivors will be shot again!

I second picking up Getting Started! and the Kult of Speed box.
You get a lot of models for your money and you can basically start any kind of army from there, with little being wasted.

In addition some army-building advice (I'm lazy, so I'll paste from another thread myself):
- Nobz from the nobz box fit bikes perfectly, if you need biker nobz, pain boy or a big mek, just put one of the nobz on a bike and add a KFF bit from a 'naut kit or the MANz box (often available from ebay). With a little work you can also fit an AOBR warboss on a bike (you need to remove the loincloth).
- Flash gits are also based on nobz, a box of flash gits has enough bits to turn a box of nobz into flash gits as well.
- Don't bother buying tank bustaz. Every boyz box comes with two rokkits, every box of lootaz/burnaz with one. Just assemble all those rokkit boyz and push them into one unit. IIRC there are also tank busta bomb bitz in the boyz box (magnetic mine with a handle)
- You can get additional kommandoz by combining burna heads with the ammo backpack from the boyz units. In general, you could also just paint a unit of boyz with camouflage shoulder-pads and/or pants and no non-ork player would be able to tell the difference.
- Almost all boyz from a boyz box can use the burna and loota bitz (one has a spiky steel bar on his shoulders, so that one can't carry a bagpack without work). 3 boxes of lootaz + 1 box of boyz = 12 lootaz, 12 burnaz, 3 tank bustaz, 1 pk nob
- Try getting used metal version of finecast characters. All of them are recasts, and all of them have terrible quality, I needed to trade in Thrakka six times before I got one with only minor miscasts. If you buy finecast, make sure that they are undamaged before painting, GW stores exchanges damaged ones for free, but sometimes their entire stock is damaged.
- Magnetize your dread, keep all weapon bits. Kanz and Deff Dreads use the same weapon sprues, and both are among the easiest models to magnetize (just glue flat, round magnets into the arm sockets). Make sure to have all magnets facing the same direction, so you can swap freely. The deff dread kit is also the only source of KMB for kanz. I'll promise you'll hate yourself when you cannot change weapon loadouts after the codex dropped.
- Either magnetize them (hard) or model your flyers as burna bommers with the blitza bommer' bombs and additional shooters. That's the maximum loadout, and it's easier to have things to count as missing than the other way around.
- Battlewagons can freely change their load-out without need for magnets. Don't glue on the armored ram/deff rolla, the 'ard case bit (roof for the back) or any of the turrets. Glue some bits of sprue, some excess foam from foam trays or some coins under turrets, so they will not fall off by themselves. Especially the klaw is a bit top-heavy, the big turret and the grot turrets will need no extra work. Fun fact, the base of the quad gun from the ADL is the same size as the big turret - 4 big shootas have never looked that awesome before.

7 Ork facts people always get wrong:
Ragnar did not win against Thrakka, but suffered two crushing defeats within a few days of each other.
A lasgun is powerful enough to sever an ork's appendage or head in a single, well aimed shot.
Orks meks have a better understanding of electrics and mechanics than most Tech Priests.
Orks do not think that purple makes them harder to see. They do think that camouflage does however, without knowing why.
Gharkull Blackfang did not even come close to killing the emperor.
Orks can be corrupted by chaos, but few of them have any interest in what chaos offers.
Orks do not have the power of believe.

Wow awesome that's a lot of info thanks so much. Are tank bustas the same base as boys?

Technically, yes. Model wise, they are a metal sculpt from last century. The box has one nob with a rokkit launcha, one boy with two rokkit pistols, one with tank hammer, two bomb squigs and two are just boyz with rokkits.
If you just build a rokkit boy and add some additional stikkboms or tank busta bombs to him, he will look more tank busta than any of the actual models.

In general, all models in the codex are either boyz or nobz with additional wargear and/or rules.
