So a friend and I have a question after reading the rules. The rule book says that models within an inch of the first row of models fighting can also fight. After measuring the bases of our infantry we realized they are not a full inch. This has lead us to believe that the third row are also technically within an inch if all 3 rows bases are touching. I understand its cheese but the rule book should be adjusted if this is not the intention because its very confusing for new players such as ourselves who only have the rule book to go off of. I dont think the rule means the second row must be fully within the inch of the first row because if it did it should specify (such as the orks force field.) Just wanted to get the opinion of more experienced players and maybe inform GW so they can change the current rule if the intent was only allowing the first two rows fight in combat.

My "take" is to follow the rules. Since the bases are not a full inch, you can fit 3 "ranks" just fine. You can actually fit 4.

I made this using GIMP, making the bases 25mm and the Blue and Green bubbles 1". One Inch is 25.4mm

As you can see, both A and B are within 1 inch, which means that both C and D are within 1" of a model within 1".

I only ask because it seems everyone I have met that plays thinks only the first two rows can fight. Some players have been playing for years and swear by it.

Vigo. Spain.

From 32mm upwards only two rows can fight. For 25mm, they can fight in 3 rows, or even 4 if you squeeze them between bases.

Dakka does have White Knights and is also rather infamous for it's Black Knights. A new edition brings out the passionate and not all of them are good at expressing themselves in written form. There have been plenty of hysterical responses from both sides so far. So we descend into pointless bickering with neither side listening to each other. So posting here becomes more masturbation than conversation.

Thanks for your input guys. I was pretty sure I was right but the model provided is proof even the most stubborn players were wrong.

It sounds like they might just be assuming that all infantry bases are 1" across.

ATTENTION
. Psychic tests are unfluffy. Your longing for AV is understandable but misguided. Your chapter doesn't need a separate codex. Doctrines should go away. Being a "troop" means nothing. This has been a cranky service announcement. You may now resume your regularly scheduled arguing.
