Anyone tried to play a game of X-Wing but just a free for all against each other??

Just wondering .. I might get together with a few old friends over the holidays and they
are not good about working together.

Need to know the good and bad of it... or should I just force groups...

Try the good old 1 ship per player, max 30 pts per player last man standing. as long as everyone deploys an equal distance away from each other its pretty good fun (may make for some "interesting" stop picking on me moments though). Multiplayer games are indeed possible, I think its the ig2000 (but it might have been dengar's flying toilet seat) that has the 3 player mission in it which was really good fun ( you had to take i think 100 pts per player, but one of them has to be a large ship. If your large ship dies you are out)

Only done this once, but it worked smoothly.

Use a larger play surface, 6x3 minimum, use double obstacles too. Ensure deployment zones have at least the normal distance between them, or as close to it as possible.

Players select a list as normal.

Players play in usual PS order, you just need to establish an initiative order at the start of the game beyond 1st and 2nd.

Have at it.

Radio chatter off table forming and disbanding alliances as the game evolves is to be encouraged.

I'd add having initiative be random at the start of each round, and allow ships to deploy anywhere beyond range 3 of an enemy.

It's fun, but as Azreal13 said, use a larger surface. Otherwise it gets crowded fast.

We alternated between two aces whenever we died, to keep things more fluid.

We do furball games on a regular basis. On, say, 4 players or less a normal board is fine (corner deployments), with 5 or more an 'epic' board works better.

I would agree a 30 point limit, 1 ship, small ships only. Banning Lone Wolf is also a pretty good idea - in a game with only 1 ship and many-on-many fights it's a bit too good for its cost

We have done a 4 player game deploying in corners on a 4x4 table I made. 100pts each, 3 roid tokens each

It's difficult when there are multiples of the same ship. But I guess that would be normal if 2 Tie swarms were going against one another... IDK

The games took about 2-4 hours to play (playing with 2 new-ish xwing players)

With 1 ship each it was one sided it seemed, with new players especially, that 1 wrong move and you are pinched and someone is out within the first couple of turns.

That's why you set a time limit and calculate kill points while recycling every time you die.
