I'm thinking about starting a SM army, but I've only been playing for about 6 months. In the generic Space Marine Start Collecting box, there is a Venerable Dreadnought, but I really dislike the exposed head look and would like the closed sarcophagus with viewslit look. Does the kit come with the ability to model it like that?

Jup, there is a enclosed sarcophagus part in it as well. Looks pretty much like the normal dread, only more ornamented (since it is a venerable dread!).
I think there should even be a pic of it on the store page for the venerable dread!

The Venerable Dreadnought kit includes the viewslit option, if the webstore page is to be believed. The start collecting boxes include the same sprues, at least the ones I've seen.

Yes. The venerable kit comes with a ton of options for almost every portion of it - one of the really good versatile kits (outside of lacking some weapon options). Good model.

If your ven dread looks like someone else’s, you went out of your way to copy them. There are so many options.

Here is how I built mine:

(note, the multimelta is not from the kit, but I spare gun I worked into one of the extra arms. Not a hard conversion, but a bit of carving)

Here are the bits I didn’t use.

And a lot of those options when you put them on the dread, are coving up detail that’s already there. It’s probably my favorite kit. The arms should be snug enough on the pegs that you can swap them without magnets. Same with the guns slotting into the arms.

If you don’t like the heads on the dread, they can be used on normal marines, and are pretty distinctive/unique.
