How do?

So with today’s reveal being pleasing, if not perhaps as big as hoped, I figured it’s worth having a wee primer thread for those who aren’t up on the AoS background where Ol’ Boney is concerned.

Now I’ve not yet read Lord of Undeath myself, so there will be gaps. However, I have read/listened to the audio book series, Mortarch of Night.

That particular tale mostly focuses on ‘still a knobber’ Manfred Von Carstein. But, it does have quite a bit of interesting info about his Boss.

Specifically, Nagash lost quite a lot during the Age of Chaos.

For a start, he was foolish enough to pact with Archaon - abandon Sigmar’s pantheon, and Shyish would be left alone. Naturally, Archaon did him a big betray. Nagash had the unliving snot beaten out of him, and was left for dead. Nagashizzar was sacked, and reduced to ruins.

But you can’t exacly kill the God of Death, at least, not that easily. He recuperated and brooded....but noticed theft from his Realm.

Souls that were his by right were missing. Of course, that refers to the Stormcast Eternals. But at that point, he hadn’t encountered them.

Eventually, he twigs onto Sigmar’s game, and winds up with a captive Stormcast - Tarsus Bullheart no less, who had been sent to treat with Nagash.....

As might be expected, Nagash is fascinated by the Stormcast. Especially when he starts to more or less vivisect Tarsus (kinda had to kill yoir subject when you control death, yeah?).

Now for us, the most interesting note here is that he recognises Sigmar’s work as akin to Necromancy. Primitive in its way, yet also more sophisticated in others. It lacks the dominance, but preserves the individuality. It strengthens rather than diminishes... and he’s very, very intrigued.

Nagash is risen....and he is seriously miffed.

Whilst checking the book name (it’s been a while!) clocked a bunch of Undead related short stories I’ve missed entirely, so feel free to chip in with any nuggets from those too.

Big Cheese Stormcast of a Chamber. He’s featured in a number of the novels, so not ‘Ensign Redshrt’...and being a particularly successful reforging, a good subject for study.

He's also in some audio dramas.
