Im looking to read up on AoS and its background/setting.
At this point, I couldnt even tell you the name of the world that AoS is set in, nor much past that.
I'd be very familiar with WHFB characters assuming most of them made it over.

Any good pointers in terms of what books to read? I'd prefer to avoid full blown novels (but if they are best so be it).
Is there an End Times style series of books that will detail the start of AoS and where it is at now?
Are battletomes of any use? The generals handbook?

thanks!

Yeah, imo this book will be the buy of the year (if it even comes out this year, but fingers crossed...)

start with the big core book, then run through the realmgate wars and quest for ghal maraz. the battletomes are helpful and its called (rather unimaginatively) the "mortal realms"

Thanks, thats quite useful

So basically from the old world:
Order is composed of the old Elves, Empire, Dwarfs
Chaos is Archaon and Daemons
Destruction is the old Orcs and Goblins and Ogres
Death is Undead, Vamp Counts
Skaven live in a sort of underworld and Lizardmen dwell in space cities

Each of them then live in a realm of their own and they can fight each other by invading realm gates and nexuses?

That about right?

I wouldn't say they each live in a "realm of their own"; rather, you could say that certain factions dominate a certain realm. For example, in Ghur, the Realm of Beasts, the humble Orruk is the dominant sapient creature. There are Orruks living in Ghyran, Aqshy and Chamon as well, but in Ghur they are the dominant force.

Also, Skaven are Chaos and Lizardmen are Order. Otherwise you've got the gist of it.
