Hey Dakka,

Hoping for some guidance, I've been looking at 30k for a long time but never had the balls to jump in and get involved as everyone here played 40k exclusively for the longest of times.
However, in a tale of 4 gamers style event; myself and 3 buddies are looking at starting up a legion each; 2 Traitor and 2 Loyalist. the emphasis would be on very small forces for hour/2 hour games for when we simply don't have time for a full game of 40k.

I want to do something that contrasts my usual gunline and disciplined battle approach; so the war hounds/ world eaters seemed a natural choice. Aggressive and Gory sounds fun to me.

Can someone please tell me before we invest in all the books, can I get a SMALL force going from 2 boxes of khorne berzerkers? I would be mixing the parts with heresy era armour, is there a troops choice available that's just 10 guys with chainsword/axe and pistol? 2 of these would form up my core, maybe boosted to 12 for one unit, and 11 for the other, the last marine being made into a praetor or character of some sort?

I know this is kinda vague, but any help would be greatly appreciated Dakka??

Cheers,
GamerGuy

Normal tacticals are 10+ in the heresy (same for assault marines) and aß world eaters they get chainaxes for free.
Do you already have the Berserkers? Seeing as 2 boxes are already 60 bucks and don't have enough axes for everyone, can you get a betrayal at calth box at a discount? With a bit of work you can change the arms to hold chainaxes (anvil Industry has some quite cheap ones). That would give you a nice small army and if there are to many marines for you, you can split with your friends.

Yeah new in box; they were hugely discounted though; paid about £40 for 24 models. can assault marines be taken as troops??

nice suggestion on BaC, will look into it, some hefty discounts available so will shop around; converting a melee contemptor would be a sweet centrepeice for a small force too

I use anvil industries chain axes on BaC and BoP marines.

I'm aiming for a force from Betrayer through the Siege so Zerks don't really work for me; plus they are pretty outdated sculpts.

Hey man first off - excellent unit choices.

Tactical marines for World Eaters can come with bolt pistol & chainaxe, so that wouldn't be a problem

A Song of Ice and Fire - House Greyjoy.
AoS - Maggotkin of Nurgle, Ossiarch Bonereapers & Seraphon.
Bloodbowl - Lizardmen.
Horus Heresy - World Eaters.
Marvel Crisis Protocol - Avengers, Brotherhood of Mutants & Cabal.
Middle Earth Strategy Battle game - Rivendell & The Easterlings.
The Ninth Age - Beast Herds & Highborn Elves.
Warhammer 40k  - Tyranids.

Thanks everyone for the support; check in on the P&M Blogs later, when I get chance to build some models I'll be starting one up with any luck.

when we add chainaxes to world eaters tactical marines, do we lose the boltgun?

Think it replaces chainsword if you have it so first you would either need to replace bolter for chainsword(free) or buy CCW(costs but you keep bolter)

The way it works my friend is Marines come with a Boltgun & Bolt pistol. You can exchange the bolt gun for a chainsword / combat blade for free (you choose a chainsword) and then because you're a World Eater that can be upgraded to a Chainaxe for free.

Alternatively for 2 ppm you can buy a chainsword, and turn that into a chainaxe for free to have a Boltgun, Bolt pistol & Chainaxe.
