Since this was before my time, I'm wondering what happened to the prices for the Dark Eldar Minis after the release of their new model line back in 2010?
I'm particularly wondering about what happened to their value on the secondary market (eBay, etc).

Dark Eldar, prior to their re-release is an interesting thing. Almost unanimously, the Dark Eldar range was one of the worst sculpted, and atrociously styled line of miniatures Games Workshop has ever produced...I mean, they're awful.

So, while many other lines of miniatures (sculpted with skill by other sculptors) generally maintain a very high value on eBay, Dark Eldar? You can't give them away unless you have something super rare on your hands.

If you have a 1990's Space Marine captain or something of that sort, you can expect $10-15-20+ depending on how rare he is. A generic Dark Eldar metal from the early 2000's? A quarter that, or less.

I make side cash by doing a lot of Warhammer eBay commissions for people - selling off large old collections, etc....and I can barely give away Dark Eldar models. The plastic basic troopers are the very worst of the bunch, with the metals close behind. You'll see a HUGE amount of Dark Eldar on eBay. Loads of them.

There are a few, a handful of people who actually like the old metals, so occasionally someone buys them, but value-wise, they're nada.

So you are saying that the Dark Eldar range should be used to predict the effect that, say... plastic sisters might have on the secondary market.

No, I'm saying the opposite. Don't use them, since they were a terrible model line and their values are in the garbage.

Most other metals hold their value fine (admittedly when new plastics come out you can no longer charge crazy prices).

If...let's say Sisters of Battle get plastic sisters models, you'll have a couple of things happen:

1) If the models are styled very differently, and people don't like them...then the old metals will stay at their high cost, or even go up. If GW just gaks the bed with awful sculpts and people hate the new plastics = metals will be worth a good bit.

2) If they make nicely styled plastics and they're generally received well, metals will drop a good bit, but you'll still have plenty of people who prefer metals, or prefer the old sculpts, so prices will stay "okay".

For instance, I sold off a bunch of my buddy's old metal sisters he had laying around. GW at the time was charging $70 for 10 metal minis, so mine sold around $55 per 10 figures --- but much more for some of the out-of-print heavy weapons models.

So I'd say if plastic sisters come out, it's highly unlikely you'll sell off metals at some crazy high profit. It's also unlikely that prices will plummet (as they did for Dark Eldar).
