Good Afternoon to all who choose to look at this post. I am still new to the game (only four months playing) and have about 12 games under my belt. some for fun with friends and two local tournaments in which I did well in one and not well in the other. From my crushing losses from the second tourney I have decided to blow up my original list and start from scratch, and of course I have bought some more models,,shhhh don't tell the wife.....to accomplish what I "think" will be a competitive list. please let me know what you think, I encourage good criticism from the vets out there. At the bottom of the list, once you have seen what I plan on bringing I will put some tactics I plan to use to make this list synergize.

so here it goes,
Cadian: 409th- Steel Talons

Brigade Detachment (Cadian)

HQ: Creed (warlord)
HQ: Company Commander- plasma pistol and power sword
HQ: Company Commander- plasma pistol and power sword

E: Command Squad- (4) Sniper Rifle

F: (2) Armoured Sentinels with Lascannons and (1) Hunter killer missile
F: Scout Sentinel with Heavy Flamer
F: Scout Sentinel with Heavy Flamer

H: Heavy Weapons Team- (3) Mortars
H: Heavy Weapons Team- (3) Mortars
H: Heavy Weapons Team- (3) Mortars

Spearhead Detachment (Cadian)

HQ: Pask- Executioner Plasma Cannon (turret), Lascannon (hull), (2) Plasma Cannons (sponsons)

H: (2) Leman Russ Battle Tanks- (1) Battle cannon and Lascannon, (1) Battle Cannon and Heavy Bolter
H: Heavy Weapons Team- (3) Lascannons
H: Heavy Weapons Team- (2) Missile Launchers, (1) Lascannon

Vanguard Detachment (Cadian)

HQ: Company Commander- plasma pistol and power sword

E: Command Squad- (3) Meltaguns, (1) Heavy Flamer
E: Platoon Commander- Plasma Pistol and chainsword *Dagger of Tu'Sakh
E: Special Weapons Squad- (3) Plasmaguns, (3) lasguns
E: Vet Squad- Sgt. with plasma pistol and chainsword, (3) Plasmaguns, (6) Shotguns
DT: Chimera- (2) Heavy Bolters, (2) lasgun array

So here are my ideas with this force. I have a ton of Command Points with this army (16) and thus I will be using Strats like candy. I plan on using the Snipers first in all of my shooting phases to Target a big bad and hope to get a mortal wound from the Sniper Rifles, if they fail in that then the Sentinals with the Lascannons try to accomplish the same, moving down the line until I get the unsaved wound needed to use Overlapping Fields of Fire. Once that wound goes through and O.L.F.o.F is in affect, I am going to use Pask ( along with the rest of my army)in a parking lot idea, with a plus one to hit, until he takes damage and his stats go down, he is a auto hit. and no worries of "getting hot" with the plasma. Super charge up, order himself to "pound them to dust" and put some major hurt on that big bad. the other tanks are versatile enough to target other units, and the mortars will rain death on the low T infantry. scout sentinels used as deep strike deny bubbles, the two infantry squads with Heavy bolters as screens for the HWT's and the 4 other infantry squads used to slowly move forward with gunlines for the tanks. Vet Squad in a Chimera with Co. Commander to race out to an objective and hold it, with the Platoon Commander with the Dagger and the Melta Command Squad as a suicide squad that can deep strike in. My hope is that I have enough dakka to deal with blobs and enough Blasta to deal with the Big threats. all in all a rounded army that buffs each other and takes advantage of many Stratagems (others I plan on using are Vengence for Cadia against Chaos, Combine Squads on HWT's so only one order is needed to have 6 bases use it, jury rig to get some W back on the Vehicles, grenaders for when an infantry squad gets charged, and take cover as well.)
so there you have it. let me know what you think.

Hello there, I m also building a list for a tournament from cadian, but I prefer artillery. Theres just too many terrain in my meta, that only indirect fire is usable. So I recommend to add more artillery if youre dealing with same sort of problem. They can be very good with overlapping fields of fire.

i was considering buying some Basilisks, however the grinding advance of tanks is just too good to pass up, having two shots from a battle cannon even with LOS restrictions is in my opinion a better option. Though I plan on play testing this army a few times and seeing what works and what does not. If the Tanks are less effective than perhaps 3 Bass. is just what it needs to pound the scum from the universe.

I might stick with the regular battle cannon on Pask or go for the absurdity that is the Punisher. In the games that I've played, the extra range on the Battle Cannon has been more beneficial than the set damage two for the Executioner Cannon.

I'm planning a fairly similar list, except I use a Baneblade chassis, but I think your tactic of using sniper mortal wounds to enable OFoF is really quite ingenious. Kudos.

A few ways to trim back points and fit room for even more infantry squads:

Drop one of your 4 Sentinels and the HK missile, still enough for the brigade. I don't see much value in 10 points for a single use krak missile. Unless you want to be *really* aggressive with your Scout Sentinels, I'd just take autocannons and maintain an anti-deepstrike bubble with them, all while saving a few points.

Your infantry squads, like the Sentinels, probably won't see much use from your flamers. They're better at bubblewrapping your tanks than advancing, and on the defense they might not even get overwatch with the flamers if it's a 9" charge. If you really need an objective clear, just focus some Russes onto the troublesome unit and MMM! a squad into the resultant crater.

This is more personal choice, but I prefer mortars over HBs on heavy weapon bases. More range, cheaper, and can ignore LOS, without sacrificing too much in the ways of damage output.

thank you all for the great advice. Kommissarkiln, I have been playing around with the ideas you presented, Pask with a battle canon is a beast, tough on the numbers a guaranteed two wounds is better than the random D3. or at least that is how it has been play testing out. as far as the infantry goes, dropping the flamers didn't work as well as I would have liked, the auto hits in overwatch are a big plus, even though the damage output is not that great. a good combo is using grenadiers strategem and throwing 9 grenades with d6 flamer auto hits, it may not take down a big bad but wow does it work well on troops, except Nurgle followers, I HATE disgusting resilience, it is that bane of all that is pure and right in the universe. also dropping a Armoured sentinel and putting in a Command squad with 4 snipers is better than an extra infantry squad, as the overlapping fields of fire is much more likely to go off with 12 shots going at a big bad. with two squads and 8 shots I was getting a mortal would roughly once every two turns, and that was just not good enough for my taste, getting 12 possible shots ups that to hopefully once a turn. going to try this out next time I play.
