Hey everyone. i have recently purchased the new box set for W40K. i am wanting to start up playing again but wanting to make more of an army for tournaments rather than what is used to do (fluff). The question I have is what is going on with the new rules and the old rules? Should I just wait about a year before i start that since there are no new codex's out (exp Xenos etc) or are the rules good enough from those books to do tournaments with?

Thanks guys and Orks

The meta is always shifting of course, but in general 8th edition favors massed fire and mortal wounds in the competitive scene. High volume, cheap screening units are very valuable for their points, and shooting is deadly. The most potent lists at the moment have a lot of Imperial and Chaos soup going on with multiple detachments of different legions/factions to get synergistic aura and stratagem combos. That's kind of the general state of things with the way the mechanics of 8th work.

Some units are or have been egregiously under-costed for what they do, but GW is hitting them with debilitating nerfs one by one. So don't expect any units that are too good to be true to stay that way for long.

I'm also just getting back into it. Luckily I still have a hefty ork army. I'm playing my first tournament on Saturday and I expect to get rolled but I'm still excited.
