Hi all

What are our options with regards to alternative heads for the cadian models within existing GW ranges? I like the idea of adding a bit more flavour to the standard minis which I think most would agree are starting to feel rather bland.

Ideas within existing GW ranges would be preferable so as to avoid any arguments about tournament legality.

Thanks all

I always like the Tempestus Sions Kit. https://www.games-workshop.com/en-US/Militarum-Tempestus-Scions-Command-Squad
You can also use the Skitari Kit for neat conversions https://www.games-workshop.com/en-US/Skitarii-Rangers-2017
For a more tech-macabre feel, you could also use Necron Heads https://www.games-workshop.com/en-US/Necron-Warriors-2017

I am using the Pig Iron Kolony militia heads but that'll probably never fly in tournies.

Here's what that looks like if you're curious:
Spoiler:

Within GW ranges, the Scion and Skitari are probably your best bet, though the Skitari hoods might look a little strange (and I suspect you'll need to remove the collar from the torso bit). Scout heads always looked a bit big, but might work if you don't mind no headgear, and last I tried same seemed to go for the Catachan heads on Cadian bodies.

You might be able to drum up Elysian heads, as headswaps seem fairly popular. ForgeWorld has a set of them with respirators that I think look awful but are definitely different. If you don't want to go TOO different, there's this from ForgeWorld that uses the standard Cadian helmets but with respirators - if you go that route let me know, I may buy some of the other bitz off you

The other humanoids in the 40k range don't quite look right, though *some* Genestealer and Chaos Cultust heads might be passible if you want a "looted" look, but it kind of clashes with the rest of the body.

I can't speak for all of them, but I've seen some people successfully use WHFB Empire and Bretonnian heads (though with the latter, it's usually the entire body as well).

Another way would be to simply slide the landraider sideways like a big slowed hovercraft full of eels. -pismakron

There are a TON of alt heads in the 3rd party universe

but if going by gw only.

i love the respirator one from FW as it matches my kashrkins.

but as others have said
scout, scions, a hand full of fantasy heads if you can find them.
wood elf hooded heads to match any units that have cloaks.

GSC for more bald mutated guys.

Scions work but you'll need to do some cutting as they don't fit Cadian necks as standard. Its worth it though, as there's some great sculpts available in those kits. Like I say, you just need to do some minor surgery to make them fit. Scale-wise they're perfect, they just have larger neck joins than a Cadian head.

Wasn’t the old rule something like 70% of the model needing to be GW parts be shown in their stores? I can’t imagine anyone, even store managers, giving too much of a stink about 3rd party heads. If the rest of the model is GW then they already got your money from the kit. They probably won’t put pictures of your stuff on their Facebook page or display your models in-store but oh well!

If it absolutely needs to be GW, look at the Empire flagellants and Bretonnians for more ragged gothic heads. Genestealer and Chaos cultists have good Chem Dog/Hive regiment heads. Scion heads are cheap and easy to find on eBay with their 10 to a box. Marine scouts have some decent heads too, though possibly a little large. Dark Eldar also have good heads for exotic regiments, once you shave down the ears.

I use the Pig Iron Near future ballistic helmet sprues for my guardsmen... I'll try and get some pics tomorrow, but certainly never had any problems with opponents using non-GW head swaps, and they're fine at both my local gaming club and Warhammer store.
