I've been drinking a little (not drunk... yet!) and now I'm pining for a Warlord titan, though I know I could never afford one.
Though if I did get one, I wouldn't build/paint it myself because I know I'd screw up the building portion and I'd never be able to do it justice on the painting side. So how much would it cost for a Warlord titan like this:
This would include building/cleaning/pinning/magnetizing, some minor conversion work (well minor relatively) to turn it into a Renegade Warlord Titan and the kind of mural work done on the model above? Obviously there would be the initial £1200 for the model but what are we talking for the commission work? £300? £500? Another £1000 on top of the original model price?
How many days would I have to go hungry before I could afford my dream Titan?
And what would be your dream miniatures? Mine being a Renegade Warlord Titan, adorned with spikes, skulls, other trophies and covered in murals of the Night Lords legion.

Well I would expect easily 4 digits for such a model commissioned...
As for dream model yeah warlord titan here too. 30k and not obviously loyal/traitor so I could use alongside blood angels or sons of horus as need be. Though for me I would build and paint myself. Sure won't be as awesome looking but you get to use it so rarely(needing 12k game minimum to even legally use it without house rule!) so building and painting would be like 90% fun!

Lot more than you think, I charge 2.5x retail price for Knight size models and my skills are no where close, especially if those are freehand work on the armor plates. Then there is the comversions, there is a super heavy at the foot and a squad of infantry. At last, the shipping and insurance.
Your initial estimate of 300-1000 gbp is way off, I’d suspect something in the 10k usd range at least.

It is weird, but the FW titans are one of the few things I actually don't lust after. Hard to build, hard to store, hard to play with, and I just don't love the look. Still, you should keep scheming, because it is infinite wants that make the free market work, after all!

Yeah, I wouldn't know what to do with a model like that. Cool showpiece though
I really love the FW chaos dreadnoughts that are out of production now. The two GW helbrute models are horrible, a terrible departure from the classic dreadnought look

I agree, 300-1000 is about an order of magnitude off depending on exactly who does the work and how detailed all the freehand is.

*clears throat* Excuse me, that's a Macharius Vulcan, NOT a Baneblade.
Edit: I remember listening to Radio Free Istvaan some time ago when some of the painters did up one of the members' Warlord when they were at Adepticon. It took three guys painting...9? 10? hours to finish it. And it didn't even have the level of freehand that has. They did it for free (because friends and marketing), but figure at least 30-40 hours of solid work just to get it done WELL, without the various murals and stuff. I can't even imagine how much that might cost.

I would imagine that it would be somewhere in the 5-7k range. It can go well North of that if freehand and conversion is involved.
I've been toying around with getting a warhound, I wouldn't pay someone else to do the work but I would take my motherfunking time and make it a very personal milestone to get it done and looking dope.
To show my age, I want a non epic scale squat land train. Could probably use a g scale and 40k it.

that could take 100s of hours. 500 is crazy cheap and frankly i'm not sure how guys can do it professionally
its highly skilled labor if you are painting competition level+ pieces that takes lets say 200+ hours
whats the price of highly skilled labor? 30/h? seems cheap to me since i pay my trainer at the gym 50 an hour and he went to college and was a trainer for a d1 college basketball team
so 10 grand for 200 hours seems kinda fair to me but who the hell is paying 10 grand?

Another pro painter that has tackled massive projects: http://www.figurepainters.com/galleries/ - responds fairly quickly to inquiries and he could give you an estimate. I've had a friend who has used him for nearly ten years to paint
Also email this studio: http://www.denofimagination.com/ if you'd like quote
I'd honestly except this to take 200+ hours for my skill level. Which would be 4000usd and I'm not nearly as talented

Yep, that'd be pricey for sure.
I'll be honest, as much as I like the 40K lore and fluff and I like the "idea" of massive ridiculous vehicles occasionally popping up for a game, the sheer logistics of anything large like that is a turn off for me.
I don't spend money to put things in a case for 364 days a year and have people admire them when visiting. If it's not something I use frequently or can easily transport and lend to folks for games, etc., I've less than zero interest in it.
Couple that with Forge World's rather absurd prices and none of their stuff is remotely on my "dream" list of miniatures. I'd take a couple hundred normal 28mm miniatures over that every single day. In none of my hobbies do I own purely extravagant show-pieces (even my one "fun gun" for shooting is shot regularly).
I don't have any idea what my dream miniature would be, but it wouldn't involve 40-50 lbs. of resin.

Also bare in mind that the best of the best can pick and choose what they want to work on.
A Renegade Warlord Titan, adorned with spikes, skulls, other trophies and covered in murals of the Night Lords legion might not tickle their fancy. A more in depth original idea might just get them to say 'Yes' I want to do this so much. You may get the work a little cheaper if you're giving the artist their dream job.
Also fwiw I don't actually like that paint scheme too much.
Whilst it is a bit of a masterclass in freehand miniatures painting it doesn't really grab me that well. There are professional miniatures painters that do beautiful small scale paintings to a much higher level. I'd prefer something a bit more utilitarian for my titan colours.

On the other question you asked, my dream miniatures would be a 2,000 pt. Eldar army painted in twilight/night sky colors. Metal minis - though I’d take plastic if we could get GW off its duff to do plastic aspects.

Honestly asides from the standard building i dont think that model was particularly hard to do. 99% sure its hydro dipped. My personal dream model would be a full zones mortalis table or that one fw xeno research base which name escapes me.

Dream model would probably be a Warhound / Eldar Pheonix bomber or Marauder.
Well within budget but I'd have zero capability to assemble them or do them justice so

I'd agree that this would be massively expensive. The time investment alone would be massive. You're looking at...
1. The cost of the Titan, the tank and the 20 or so infantry dudes.
2. Paint costs.
3. Basing material costs.
4. The time to clean and "sub-assemble" the models.
5. The time to build the custom base.
6. The time to paint the Titan, tank and infantry models to a VERY high standard... probably hundreds of hours.
7. The time to assemble the painted sub-assemblies.
8. Shipping and handling cost.

Hugely expensive. Take the cost of a classical style paintings done to this quality -then consider that they have to be done on curved surfaces, at a considerably smaller scale, probably doubles or triples the time, and the cost accordingly.
